In March 1882 William Jasper Cox shot and killed a man who I think was named Blodgett but not sure. In 1965 I went to the old Scott County Court house, found and got a copy of the arrest warrant, coroners inquiry, and a statement form a resident of the county that she had seen Cox in the area while the authorities were looking for him. Since then, due to my job requiring frequent moves, a great many of my old records have been lost. (It would have been great if we had computers in those days). After retiring I returned to the (new) Scott county courthouse while on vacation. I thought I would be able to get new copies. But even with the help of the Clerk (who is a wonderful lady and did the best she could) I was unable to find the records. I am sure they are still there but the record trays are all mixed up and in no way match the index books. I appears during searches by individuals, no care has been taken to insure that they are put back in the proper order. I wish I could live in the area so I could volunteer to reorganize these records. But "people" please if you are a serious about genealogy, be certain to replace old records properly. Enough of my "Soap Box Speech". Does anyone have any info on the above case. William Jasper Cox (son of Joseph King Cox, Buried in French Prairie Cem. Ione, Logan Co. AR. was my g-grandfather and is buried in Bold Springs Cem. near West, McLennan Co. TX under the name of Charlie King Cox. I would gladly pay if someone can come up with copies of the above mentioned documents. Also any information on the family of Daniel M Smith, buried in Cedar Grove Cem near Tomlinson. His daughter was married to William Jasper Cox. Thanks Bob F. Smith III Victoria, TX
