Hello Fellow Scott County Rooters, I am interested in getting an accurate answer to the real middle name of my gr gr grandfather, Charlie V. STRINGER. He was born 17 Jun 1882 in Scott Co., Arkansas. He died in Hon on 31 Dec 1961. First of all, his death certificate records his name as Charles Vernasher. The informant was his third wife, Mrs. Ola STRINGER. However, I have also seen his middle name spelled Vanasher. My grandfather, and Charlie's oldest son by his first wife, Arthur Lawrence STRINGER, told me in the 1970's (some 15 years before Arthur's death and when his memory was still good) that his father's middle name was Van Meter. I understand that there are some VAN METER's living in Scott Co. Did Charlie's parents have so much respect for the VAN METER clan that they would attach that fine moniker to their oldest son? Was Arthur simply confused - remembering the VAN METER family name rather than his father's true middle name? As far as I can tell, there were no "Vanasher" or "Vernasher" names in either of Charlie's parents' families. I have found another Van Meter family up in Missouri where his parents came from.
