    2. BIRDLADY
    3. Barb and Susan...I don't know HOW these other two TATES tie to your Thomas Jefferson Tate, or if you have ordered these files previously. When the U.S. Congress enacted a bill to enable "Southerns" to File Claims for damages they suffered during the civil war, lots were filed from Arkansas. The ones I have ordered have been GOLD MINES....they tell a history of the hard-ships and killings, lootings and fears during the war, they should contain several affadavits from friends and neighbors, etc. Here are the ones filed by SCOTT County TATE folks: TATE, Jacob P. Scott AR Commission NO. 18800 Office No. 197, Report #7, filed in 1877, Status D.(denied) TATE, Jeremiah J. Scott AR Commission No. 18799, Office NO. ---, Report No. 4, filed 1874, Status A (allowed) TATE, Zachariah, Yell AR Commission NO. 19800 Office NO.-----, Report No. ---, year------, Status B (Barred) One man I gave these files to on his ancestor, received a 300 page family history, he said it had cleared up years of guessing and errors on his families...his was out of VA not ARk...but, mine in Ark. were really GOOD!!!!!!! write to : General Reference Branch National Archives Washington, DC 20408 request a copy of the claim file, specify "Southern Claim Files" specify Ark and Scott County and include all the data I gave you for the file. Send NO money, they will search and see if the file survived and will notify you of that and the number of pages in the file, and the AMOUNT you need to send if you want to order the file...then you send it back with check and they will mail you the full claim file.
