Hi All, We have many new subscribers in the last couple of weeks and the traffic on this list has been so low that some of them are wondering if they are actually subscribed. ;-) How about if we all introduce ourselves and the Scott Co. families we're researching? Anyone with a specific problem the rest of us might be able to help you with? Any fantastic or exciting new breakthroughs you've had in your research? I am Delaine Edwards and I live in Scott County. This is my husband's home county and his ancestors here were: Kilburn, Newborn, Rice, Stinson. I'm a transplanted Californian and love it here. My ancestors, too, were Arkansans but came mostly from Franklin Co. and Van Buren Co. I have been interested in family history for the last 25 years or more. I started my research by asking questions (and more questions - older family members grew to hate seeing me come in the door) and then sending for all the available death certificates, of course then progressed on to census microfilm and from there to other county records on film. Military and pension records have been very helpful in my research. As you can see, I prefer filmed records to working in courthouses or libraries. I have had a microfilm reader for many years and it still gets a lot of heavy use. I am fairly new to researching on the internet so can't pass on any good tips for that; hope some of you can give us some good pointers on that. I can only say that I think the USGenWeb project is great and can only get better as time goes on and more actual records are transcribed and added to the archives.
