SURNAMES Hi! I guess I’m kind of slow doing this, but here goes: I am researching my family background. My father’s family comes from Scott County. His name is CHARLES MATTHEW MORROW (b. 1912), and he married NANCY EDITH PHILLIPS (she is from Newton County). His parents were BENJAMIN ALLEN MORROW (1888-1974) and OLLIE C. HARRIS MORROW (1891-1961). His father was WILLIAM P. MORROW (1857-1929). They lived in Nola. I don’t know what William’s father’s name was, but he was born in Indiana, as was William P. Need information on his family. His wife was MELVINA JONES (1860-1931), who, I think, had at least four siblings: MARTHA JONES (1852-1934) who md. ISAIAH BROTHERS (1852-1932). SUSAN JONES (1855-1916) who md. JUHU JACOB WILSON (1854-1930). JAMES W. JONES (1857-?) who md. NANCY E. MORROW (1864-1927). Melvina’s father may have also been named JAMES W. JONES, and her mother named LOUISE. I am not sure and am looking for information on this family. Her mother married a WILLIAM VAUGHN after her husband was killed by bushwackers during the Civil War, probably 1864. OLLIE C. MORROW’S parents were ROBERT (called BOB) M. HARRIS (1867-1915) and LAURAH BELLE JOURNEY (1874-1942). I do not know who Robert’s parents were, but might have been a B.C. or CHRISTOPHER HARRIS from Tennessee. Bob Harris’ father came from Tennessee and his mother from Arkansas. His mother’s name may have been LOU or LOUISANA (her last name may have been DWYER). I am looking for information on the Harris family. Laurah’s father was, I believe, ELIJAH F. JOURNEY or JURNEY (it was spelled both ways in records.)and he was from Tennessee. Her mother’s name was, I think, DOLLIE, but it might have been REBECCA or both. I think (hope, anyway) his father was NATHANIEL JURNEY or JOURNEY who was born in Virginia, whose wife was named MAHALA, and was born in Tennessee. My father gave me the name DWYER, as the mother of one of his grandparents, but he couldn't remember which one for sure, though he thought it might be his grandfather Harris. I am hoping that someone out there may know of these families and can give me some information. Thanks very much. Hope this isn't too long.
