    1. ARSCOTT - TURNER > HISAW > RAINWATERS
    2. Looking for assistance and connections in Scott County. Have bible records that document locations and births, but need any birth records, and marriage records on the union of Sarah Elizabeth Hisaw to Thomas L. Rainwaters circa 1882. They had their first child in 1882 in Waldron, Scott County. Assume they married in 1882 or near this time. Documentation shows that the Hisaws, Joel C. and Mahala Turner Hisaw moved into the Greenridge community east of Waldron, Scott County, AR, arriving there in the 1860's from Fayette County, AL. Their children were: Joel E. born 1858 in GA, Sarah Elizabeth born 1865 in AR, Scott County, M.A. born 1868 and died age 11, and Benjamin F. born 1875 in TX. They moved back to Scott County after this brief move to Texas. Joel Died in 1887 and is buried in the Birdsview Cemetery. After his death, Mahala remarried Mr. M W Wagoner on 1889. Prior to 1910, she was again widowed. She was found living with her daughter Melissa J. Hisaw Sherrill and her husband Samuel R. Sherrill in the Birdsview settlement. It is not known where Mahala is buried. Any help appreciated! Debbie Rainwater Anderson autoprofit@aol.com I have Permela W. Turner age 38 born in GA Malissa Turner age 15 Permela E. Turner age 13 all living with : Joel C. Hisaw age 42 born in GA Mahala R Turner Hisaw age 27 born in GA Joel C. Hisaw age 4 WM Hisaw age 1 All living in Fayette, AL in 1860. 2. In a message dated 97-06-08 07:16:14 EDT, you write: > I've had a great deal of success finding > useful information in probate records from other states. Delaine, I am hoping you can help with my TURNER surname who I find living with Joel Hisaw as head of household and Mahaley Turner Hisaw was Mahaley's mom, Permela W. Turner and her two sisters, Malissa and Permela E. Turner. I find them on the 1860 Census in Fayette County, AL.. I am assuming that Permela's husband and Mahaley's Dad must have died and it may have occurred in Fayette County. Have heard 'rumors' that his name was Elisha. Where should I start to look for probate records for this family? Thanks for any help....by the way, sorry for sending such a specific request in AL to the ARSCOTT list but I accidently deleted your email. 1. Scott County Ancestors
    2. Donna Cook Freeman
    3. Somewhat new at genealogy, I was born in Waldron and am very grateful to find that Scott County has it's own list. I would like to list each family (husband and wife) seperately, one at a time. I am Donna Cook Freeman My father was Oliver Raymond Cook from Bates, son of James Cook and Ada Nelson. His siblings were/are: Otto Cook (still living) Isah Faye, deceased, Iva, deceased. James was the son of Charles Cooke of Bates (Gipson) and Susan Stuart. James had one brother, Oliver. Charles Cooke is listed as being born in Arkansas, but I do not know where his parents were from. Susan Stuart married a Lewis Walker after the death of Charles. Both are buried in the Gipson cemetery. Ada Alice was the only child of Hugh Nelson and Mary. I have no clue what Mary's last name was, but she burned to death as the family was returning from probably Stringtown, Oklahoma and her clothing caught fire while she was cooking over a camp fire. Hugh must have died shortly thereafter, for he disappears from the census. Ada Alice was raised by her grandmother, Mary A. Nelson, who was also the mother of not only Hugh, Ada's father, but also Robert, John, Joseph and William. I do not know Mary A. Nelson's maiden name, nor that of her husband, the father of the boys. The Nelson's came to Arkansas from Louisiana. Thanks for any information. Next I will do my mom's family, the Doyel's and Poe's. 3. Dear Scott County friends, I too am responding late to the request for surnames. I live in Maine and returned recently to a fact finding trip to Scott County. Unfortunately, I didn't find much. The surnames that I'm researching are Bolden (or possibly Baldwin), Conner (or maybe Connor), and Wright. My Bolden family came to Scott County from Missouri around 1890. Great-grandfather Ira Ellis Bolden (1869-1905) is supposed to be buried in Lamb Cemetery in Scott Co, but we were not able to find a headstone. I located a Nathan Conner living in Boone County Missouri along with a half-sister named Mary Baldwin. Both were from Indiana where my Ira Ellis is thought to have been born. Nathan and his family later were located in Polk Co AR. I have reason to believe that Nathan and my Ira were associated in some way and I'm betting that they were half-brothers. I would love to find some confirmation of this fact. I am also interested in discovering when my great-grandmother remarried. Her second husband was Ben Smith and they lived just outside of Waldron until her death in 1950. 3. I apologize that I am late responding to the request over the weekend to list the families we are researching from Scott County. Delaine has been very helpful and I have found several things through her. Also, L. Dale Epperson has been of great help. The families of interest to me from Scott County are the HALL and HOLLIS/HOLLACE families. Specifically, the Hall family begins with James Carter Hall of SC->AL->AR. He moved to Scott County in the fall of 1860 and was killed by Bushwackers during the Civil War. His son James Carter Hall, Jr. moved with him and served in the Civil War as a Confederate Soldier. J.C. Hall, Jr. married (1) Sarah (Sallie) C. Hayes in 1868 (b. TN, d. 1878) He then married (2) Margaret Hollis in 1880 (b. 1855, d. 1922). He died sometime between 1892 and 1900. J.C. and Margaret had Thomas Jefferson Hall in 1885. Thomas Jefferson Hall married Sarah Lee Vinelee Paralee Penland (a very long name) in 1904. She was from Park, AR. Is Park in Scott County? 2. Delaine Edwards
    3. I enjoyed all your postings to this list yesterday and hope some of you reaped some benefits. Sounded like a few of you at least found family connections? I was intrigued by Shirley Denney's question about probate records and am hoping someone can provide some insight into the probate procedure in Arkansas and/or Scott County. I've had a great deal of success finding useful information in probate records from other states. Specifically, Alabama, where I've found wonderful, detailed family information in Petitions to Sell Real Estate and other records that are part of the probate process. I've never had any luck at all finding anything of this nature in Arkansas, but perhaps it's only because I don't know where to look? Hopefully someone on this list has more experience with this type of researching in Arkansas and can give the rest of us some information. Delaine Edwards ------------------------------

    3. Hi Everybody, We are researching the Lewis J. Henson family of Mountain Twp, Scott Co, Arkansas. We believe Lewis moved with many other family members to Scott Co from Barry Co, MO around 1859. Lewis homesteaded there until his death in 1881. Lewis lived in Scott Co near Francis Marion Henson (his brother) and of unknown relation: John C Henson, Mariah Henson (Marr. Edward), and many childen. One of whom , Susanna, married the neighbor's boy, Anderson Blackwell, son of John H. and Sarah Blackwell. Any connections to HENSON, BLACKWELL, or GOSWICK families (Goswicks from _anywhere_) would be great! Id also like to take this opportunity to thank Delaine, without whom Id still be lost at the local library, wondering which Arkansas Henson was mine<g>. *** THANK YOU DELAINE !!! *** You're the greatest! Does this mean that there will be some court records to settle this estate? Thanks, Shirley ------------------------------

    3. Shirley: I've got the stupid flowers in the ground. It is clouded up to rain here, too, and if we will only get a light rain. They will be o.k. I still have to water the potted plants and the cat. My mother has my children with her and for some reason is frantically cleaning her house. She has FINALLY agreed to go with me to Arkansas because she is trying to avoid being a hostess. This trip has fallen through several times over the past ten years. If I'd know this was all it took to get her to go I'd have invited company to see her long ago. The kids are helping their grandmother. My son is relived that I'm coming today. I already told him that I'm not motivated to get there before bedtime and to keep cleaning!! I've already grabbed the Walker files and thrown them in a box to take with me. Armstead Walker's name caught my eye in the file. I don't remember what I have on him. I remember stalking a Byrd Walker all over the place. Does he tie in? Also I caught sight of a 52 year old Calvin Walker over in Sebastian Co., ARK on the 1850/60 (?) census...I had just made the notation that there was a Ward family living next door to him. Got to remember to grab the camera! Going to go grab some lunch before I tackle the watering. kathy ------------------------------

    1. Re: Scott Co AR Mailing List
    2. Hello: My name is Dixie Ryan and I am doing reseach on the Jacob Bennett family. Jacob was born on March 27, 1831 in Tennessee (some records say 1830). He married Mary Francis (Molly) Richardson on Octber 2, 1867. She was born in Lewisburg, Marshall County, Tennessee on September 4, 1838. Jacobs father as Seth Bennett who was aborn approximately 1799 in South Carolina. He married Margaret Cheek on May 16 1826. I have some discrepancy on Mary Francis. One record says she was the daughter of Thomas H. Richardson who was born in 1802 in North Carolina. Another record I have says she was the daughter of Charles Richardsonwho was the son of Thomas H. Richardson. Her mother is listed simply as Sarah. Jacob and Molly had seven children one Albert died as an infant. The remainder later traveled with their parents in probably about 1880 or so to waldron, Arkansas where they lived out their lives and are buried in Waldron. I have really enjoyed my search for this family and other lines of my genealogy. I have met several Arkansas cousins and one that is now "displaced" in California. I think it is great finding family you did not know you had. Dixie Ryan DRyan43196@aol.com ------------------------------
