To all of my fellow Scott County researchers: I have a photo that I'd like help identifying. Could you help? You can find the picture by visiting my Bolden family web page at http://www.megalink.net/~schau/mjbfam.html If you have trouble getting directly into this site, go first to http://www.megalink.net/~schau and go in through the surname link. Hi all!! My cousin sent me information on this web site: http://www.rootsweb.com/~moozark/southoz.htm the email address was hen1@idt.net or daisy @usroots.com. EASTERN TENNESSEE TO THE OZARKS The purpose of this page is to trade genealogical information on families which had at least one line that went from East Tennessee to the Ozark region of Missouri and Arkansas. This seems to have been quite a common migration route, and many of the families that made this trek intermarried both in Tennessee and in the Ozarks. Now you can subscribe to ETN-OZ: The mailing list for anyone who is interested in families that migrated from East Tennessee to the Ozarks region. Mailing address for postings is etn-oz@sirius.dsenter.com. To subscribe, send the following to majordomo@sirius.dsenter.com: subscribe etn-oz Thought it might be of interest to you all. Charlene

Hi all! I may have posted this information before but thought it wouldn't hurt to do it again. I am currently writing a history of my family and have been searching for the parents of my great-grandfather, William P. Morrow. The following is pretty much all I have about his background. WILLIAM P. MORROW was born about 1857/58 somewhere in Indiana. Both of his parents were born in Indiana, too (according to the 1900 census.) I do not have any information about his parents, other than there may have been a daughter by the name of NANCY A. MORROW who married JAMES W. JONES (the brother of Melvina Jones, the wife of William) in Scott County, AR. There may also have been a son, who had a son by the name of ISAAC MORROW. WILLIAM P. (1857/58-1929) came to Scott County, sometime in the early 1880s and married MELVINA JONES (1860-1934), sister of the above James W. Jones. William and Melvina had five children: 1. FRANKLIN I.C. MORROW (1882-?) who married MILLIE JONES, and later moved to Harlingen, Texas. He had at least one son, RAY (or ROY) MORROW, who married a woman named VIVIAN. 2. ALICE C. MORROW (1884-?), who married a man named HALE 3. BENJAMIN ALLEN MORROW(1888-1974) (my grandfather), who married OLLI C. HARRIS (1891-1961). They had seven children, a. GENEVA(1908-1910) b. JOSIE(1910-1911) who both died as small children, c. CHARLES MATTHEW MORROW (1912- ) (my father), who married NANCY EDITH PHILLIPS(1919- )of Newton County, AR. d. CLIFTON (KIP) MORROW (1915-1985), who married IMOGENE BEYARD. e. ONEIDA MORROW (1917- ), who married RAYMOND NEIGHBORS. f. BILL MORROW (1919-1985), who married PAULINE JONES. g. ROBERT BRUCE MORROW (1928-1970) who married NETTIE GEAN DUKE. 4. LUELLA MORROW (1886-?), who married ALBERT JOSLIN. They had two children that I know of: ELLA and GLADYS JOSLIN. 5. MARY MORROW (1892-?) who married a man named MITCHELL, I dont know where William (he was called Bill, I believe) Morrow lived before he came to Arkansas. I know that his son, Frank, eventually moved to Harlingen, Texas, so it may be that he lived in Texas before he came to Scott County. If you have any information that may be of help, or know of someone who may be connected to my family I would appreciate you letting me know. Thank you so much. Charlene 8)
Hello group! First, let me say thank-you to all of the wonderful people who responded to my post about the lack of Arkansas information in my FHC library. I am now having dreams of visits to the Salt Lake Archives! I am trying to figure out why Joel C. Hisaw and his wife, Mahala or Mahaley Turner left Arkansas and went to Cherokee County, TX to pick up my g grandfather Thomas L. Rainwater and bring him back to Scott County. The story goes that his parents and sister were ambushed by indians. But no proof as of yet. We know his father was tried for murder but acquitted in 1857. They were still in tact as a family there in 1860. In 1870, Thomas was living with a minister and his family in Cherokee County, but by 1880, he was a farmhand on a farm in Scott Co. by 1882 he married Lizzie Hisaw and they had their first child. We assume that the Hisaw's and Rainwater's must have had prior knowledge of each other for them to take the child back to AR with them. The other brother, was left in TX. We don't know where he was in 1870, but was married in TX by 1880 and remained there until his death years later. I guess I would need old newspapers, local stories, history books of the county or anything else that exists for that time period. Any ideas where I should start (besides making my dream come true and heading for Salt Lake :-))) )? Or are things like this typically not documented? Thanks again for everyone's sharing and help! I am looking for information on James A. Sessions, the father of Robert and J.F. Sessions. I know that he came from Georgia and Alabama and was an Indian agent to the Creek Indians. I don't know who his parents are or who is wife is, besides the name "Loa" any connection to him? Jacki
Since this man is obviously trying to assist in the Arkansas area, I thought it would be a service to us to have this info. as Pike is not too far from Scott Co. Hi you all! I've come across a great source for middle Tennesse marriage lookups. from <rstanfor@frontiernet.net>. He has given me permission to share his address <<Yes you may share my address with others. Ron >>. You need to make sure that you put under Subject: Attention Ron. He has found quite a few marriages for me. Charlene 8) PS: Anybody out there have any connections to the MORROW family of Scott County? I swear my great-grandfather, William P. Morrow just appeared out of nowhere! :D
Delaine, Do you know if there are any church records available for Scott County? My relative Nancy Bowen may have been a member of one of the Christian churches. I can find the name if that would help. Mildred
Thanks to John Dill for the following information about the death records I asked about this morning. I expect it's probably also very incomplete for Scott Co. for the same reason he stated - probably not many death certificates were filed in the early days when the law first went into effect. And I messed up typing Sue Acuff's (not Acruff) name as the lookup volunteer for these records. Delaine Edwards >The book in question is an index to the death records filed with the >Arkansas State Dept. of Health from 1914 to 1923. (Index to death records) > For my county (Sebastian) it is very incomplete because so few death >certificates were filed for in the early days. The book just lists (by >county) name followed by date which is the information you would use to >obtain the death certificate from the state. > >John Dill >>
Hi All, Sue Acruff whose Email address is JVILLE88@aol.com will do lookups from a book she owns: "Western Arkansas Death Record Index, 1914-1923" published by Arkansas Research, 1996. I haven't seen the book but evidently it covers the counties of Crawford, Franklin, Johnson, Logan, Montgomery, Polk, Pope, SCOTT, Sebastian and Yell. As a lookup volunteer for several counties myself, may I suggest we don't overload her with requests, but rather ask for only a few at a time. And please remember to thank her for her time and effort on your behalf. That's what makes it all so worthwhile to volunteers. If anyone on this list is familiar with this book, will you please tell the rest of us just what it is? I suspect it's an index to death certificates for that time period, but I'm not at all certain. Thanks. Delaine Edwards
I didn't understand this message. Have you seen my query re: RHOADES and BOWEN? Is it ok? Mildred
