Have you visited the Scott Co. webpage lately? In the last week we've added several new photographs: The Moore Family in 1910. James Everett Moles, son of early settler and county official, Jacob Cooper Moles. John Condry & Veda Grandstaff Wedding Picture. John P. Newborn & Amanda Kilburn. Have you checked out the "Mystery Photo" to see if you can add any information? Stop by at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~arscott/scott.htm and take a look. If you have a photo of your Scott Co. ancestor you'd like added to the collection, drop me a note at delaine@ipa.net. Thanks. Delaine Edwards cc, Scott Co. ARGenWeb
In the 1850 Independence County, Arkansas Census, Nancy Nelson (born 1840 in Tennessee), is listed in the household of Reuben and Nancy Nelson, the sibling of Reuben Nelson(2) and Mary Nelson. They live in close proximity to Martin Nelson (which I know from family history to be an older sibling). In the 1860 census, Mary Nelson is married to James Blackwell of Mountain Township, and again, Martin Nelson lives in close proximity. I have not found Nancy Nelson in the 1860 census. In the 1870 census of Cedar Creek Township, Crawford County, Martin Nelson lives next door to N.A.Blackwell (female, head of house, born in 1840), and R.R. Nelson (same age as Reuben Nelson(2), born 1838, Tennessee)is a farm laborer living with her. It seems obvious to me that this is Nancy Nelson Blackwell, living with one brother and next door to another brother. My question is as follows: Does anyone know which Blackwell Nancy Nelson married? Or the name of the female child living with her listed as M.C., age 3?
Hi, Have you visited the Old Photos section of the Scott Co. webpage lately? We've started something new you may enjoy: a "Mystery Photo" that will remain on there for a few weeks. This one was taken about 1905 at Waldron and Nancy Parnell would like all of you to drop by and see if you can tell her anything about the people in the picture, or about the school itself. If you'd care to submit a photo for our next "Mystery Photo," please contact me at delaine@ipa.net. Preferably a photo where you have some clues to the identity of the person or people in the picture. Thanks. http://www.rootsweb.com/~arscott/scott.htm Delaine Edwards cc, Scott Co ARGenWeb
Our WILSON and CARTWRIGHT lines came from TN. Surely many families that moved into Scott Co. also came from or through TN. I have Vol. 2 of the 1860 TN census. Surnames CRAI-HAYNES. Please Email me if you would like a look-up.

Hi again! It's been a couple of months since I posted this, so will do so again in hopes that someone out there has information on WILLIAM PRESTON MORROW, born February 1857/1858 in INDIANA. According to census records, both of his parents were also born in Indiana. There are conflicting stories about William. One being that he was the sole survivor of an Indian attack as a boy, and the other is he may have had at least one sister, NANCY A/E MORROW, who married JAMES W. JONES, the brother of William Preston's wife, MELVINA JONES, and there was also an EDWARD MORROW in Scott County, Arkansas, who may have been related to William, and may have even been a brother. William was known to be in SCOTT COUNTY, ARKANSAS from about 1880-1883 until his death in 1929. Looking for CRUMP, J.R., married to Jane McVey, Lexanner Thayson, and Adaline Lawrence Brown. May have been born in Mississippi, lived mostly in Arkansas, Scott County. Don't know year of birth, or parents names. May have had a brother named Nathan Crump. Children of the above wives, may include: Leander, A.A., Dovie, Rufus.
First, I want to wish all of you a happy holiday! And may 1998 bring each of you at least one new and exciting piece of information on your most elusive ancestor. Several of you have expressed interest in the J.R. "Jake" Crump who was mentioned briefly in the Adeline (Lawrence) Brown Crump story written by Janice Rogers and published in the Spring 1997 issue of the Scott County Historical & Genealogical Society quarterly. Janice has sent this further information: 1860 census of Pike County, Arkansas Brewer Township, Dwelling #240: J.R. Crump 23 MS Jane 24 AR Leander 2 AR A.A. 1mo AR (f) Nathan 18 MS Although the age is off just a bit from the J.R. Crump marriage records found here in Scott Co., this J.R. Crump of Pike Co. apparently did have some connection with Scott Co: The Leander Crump listed above as his 2-year old son is found on the 1900 Scott Co. census at Parks. Lee married Lucy Blackwell, daughter of Ambrose and Eliza J. (Sessions) Blackwell. I'd be very interested in knowing what each of you are able to learn about this J.R. Crump of Pike County. Is he "Jake" Crump???? Merry Christmas to all of you! Delaine

Hi, The 1885 Mountain Township Personal Property List and the 1875 List of School Age People in Boles School District posted here both came from "A Scott County Scrapbook" by Norman Goodner. This book, as well as "Scott County Days Gone By" (same author) may still be available from the office of Donald Goodner, 315 Washington St., Waldron 72958. I believe the price is $5.00 each, plus postage. It is my understanding these books will not be reprinted and may be sold out or soon will be. Another good Scott County book is "Scott County in Retrospect" by Charles Goodner. It's available for $6.00 plus $1.00 postage from Charles Goodner, P.O. Box 1110, Waldron, AR 72958. Same thing on this one, when his current supply is sold out he doesn't plan to have it reprinted. Delaine
