Hi! Well, I certainly have run into a brick wall with my MORROW family. I have been looking for information about WILLIAM PRESTON MORROW, born February 1857/1858, supposedly in INDIANA. According to census records, both of his parents were also born in Indiana. There are conflicting stories about William. One being that he was the sole survivor of an Indian attack on his family as a boy, and the other is he may have had at least one sister, NANCY A/E MORROW, who married JAMES W. JONES, the brother of William Preston's wife, MELVINA JONES and there was an orphaned nephew (at least so called in census records)named ISAAC MORROW, so there must have been a brother at one time! Tthere was also an EDWARD MORROW in Scott County, Arkansas, who was also born in Indiana and may have been related to William, maybe even his brother. William was known to be in SCOTT COUNTY,ARKANSAS from about 1880-1883 until his death in 1929. I know he existed! I have a picture of him!! Did he drop out of the sky, was he from outer space. Where was he before he came to Scott County! Doesn't anybody know my poor old great grandpa!! Here are my Morrows: William Preston Morrow 1857-1929 IN-AR md. Melvina Jones, my great grandparents. Benjamin Allen Morrow 1888-1974 Scott Co.,AR md Ollie C. Harris, my grandparents Charles Matthew Morrow 1912 AR-OK md Nancy Edith Phillips, my parents. I don't think this one was intended for the mailing list but I'm going to forward it in case anyone is better able to help her than I am. Does anyone know what Logan Co. courthouse might charge for a marriage record? I believe she does have enough information for them to locate the record, if they'll just make the effort? Has anyone had any experience with Logan Co. & know which courthouse to write to, Paris or Booneville? And speaking of Logan Co., has everyone checked out the Ione Baptist Church Minutes Shirley Denney recently contributed to the Scott Co. Archives? These begin in the 1870s and there's a link to them on the Scott Co. webpage. Hi Delaine, My name is Donna Cook Freeman, born between Hon and Evening Shade in Scott County. My father Oliver Raymond Cook was born in Bates, to James S. Cook and Ada Nelson. James father, Charles C. Cook(e) is listed as being born in Stone County in 1851. Charles was married to Susan Stuart and had two sons, James and Oliver. Charles date of death is given as 22 January 1883. Susan Stuart married Lewis Walker after the death of Cook. They were around the community of Gibson for many years, James and Ada buying a home previously owned by Dr. Kline. James was a partner with A. Bethel in the General Store there. My brick wall is Charles C. Cook. I have not been able to find his trail or get past him. I would also be interested to know if any of the old landmarks are left there, if someone local could tell me. Thanks for any help, I am so anxious to find this family. Donna Cook Freeman
Here's another good one you all need to see in case you can help. I've got this list set to "reply to" me rather than reply back to the list. Saves embarrassment if you didn't intend to reply back to the whole mailing list, but sometimes, like now, I think you probably do want everyone to see your posts. :) Delaine >Date: Sat, 14 Mar 1998 14:15:47 -0600 >From: "K.E. I'm going to repost this to the list in case someone may have information that will help Betty get "unstuck" on this family. James Lewis Williams, age 44, and family was on the Scott Co. census at Lafayette Township in 1880. Betty can tell you much more but I know she's trying to learn where in Tennessee they came from.
