The following are some new surnames that will be posted to the Surnames on the Scott Co. USGenWeb page at http://www.rootsweb.com/~arscott/scott.htm For the time being I plan to post new surnames and queries both on the webpage and to this mailing list as I believe people may receive more and possibly faster help in this way. I suspect that Kay's family was the Calvin and Manerva (Smith) Nichols family who are found on the 1860 census in Lafave Township and had a daughter who married first a Thompson and second a Shelton? Calvin and Manerva were on the 1850 census in Tishomingo Co., MS. After Calvin's death Manerva married a Franklin. Kay, if this is your family, I can send you more information on them from a soon to be published book on the people of Park Township. Isn't this wonderful - hard to imagine this little mailing list would reach someone in such a far away place, but it has happened before - isn't the internet great?! Thanks, Cindy, for sharing and I hope you won't mind that I'm sending this on to the list: Subject: Re: Inquiry? Date: Sun, 8 Nov 1998 08:11:54 EST From: MackofMD@aol.com To: delaine@ipa.net Hi Delaine. Yes, I did receive a couple responses to my post. Not sure if it is a connection yet but the same name, and same migration pattern. Also, I received a note from a gentleman in Indonesia, whose cousin forwarded my post to him. He was raised in Ione, remembers my family, and has sent me some history on the Ione area as well as the churches. The past few days have been very exciting as well as interesting. Thanks- Cindy
I meant to ask that you send this information to the mailing list at ARScott-L@rootsweb.com so all of us can enjoy it. Here's a good one: Subject: Re: Inquiry? Date: Sun, 8 Nov 1998 08:09:42 EST From: COTTON234@aol.com To: delaine@ipa.net Delaine, Yes, I received a few contacts. The one I'm really pleased about is a descendant of my husband's ggaunt Emma Jane Self Bottoms sister to Virgil S. Self. We plan to exchange information & try to bring things up to date -- still looking for Virgil's brother John. Martha Lafferty Harris
Hi All, I hope all of you have enjoyed the activity from this mailing list over the last few days. Now, I'd like to ask those of you who posted your surnames or other information: Did you receive any useful information in response to your posting? Did you locate any new "cousins?" Please let us know here about the results of your posting. Those of you who received no replies from your posting, please wait a few more days and then I'll be asking some questions of you, as well, and perhaps you can post a more informative inquiry and receive some help. The List has been so very active over the last few days and it will take some of the subscribers awhile to read all the postings and you may receive replies yet. I'd like to remind all of you and especially the newer subscribers, that this Scott County Mailing List is provided by Rootsweb in conjunction with the Scott County USGenWeb page, which is located at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~arscott/scott.htm On the webpage you will find some Scott County records, indexes, queries, lists of surnames, lookups provided by volunteers, photographs, Scott Co. maps, etc. Information is also provided there about the Scott Co. Historical & Genealogical Society and a list of their many publications that are available for sale. This mailing list can be a useful tool in providing you with contact with others researching the same area and possibly the same families you are, but only if you _use_ it! Good luck in your research. Delaine Edwards
