HI, I have struggled for years trying to tie all the Jones together. According to family tradition, all the Jones in early Scott County who came from Alabama were somehow related. My earliest Jones is G. W. (George Washington) Jones from Brawley (Jones Creek). He was born in Marshall County, Alabama in 1826. According to Scott County books, he had two brothers, Johnnie and Calvin. Does anyone have these men in their family lines? Also there is a John Jones with wife Delilah in the 1860 Brawley Township, and A. (Alexander) H. Jones and wife Harriet; and James M. Jones with wife Melinda; does anybody have any ideas or clues as to what happened to these families. I can't seem to find them after the 1860 census. I would appreciate any help or clues in trying to tie all the Joneses together. Thanks Lynne Bates Skiatook, Ok

I am interested in information on JW Combs of Cauthron and later Bates. He was married to Rebecca Combs, and later to Lucinda Combs. He came to Scott county about 1880, and lived there until he died in 1911. Lucinda evidently outlived him by many years. I have record of her being alive and still living in Bates in 1932. Any information anybody has on this family would be appreciated. Rick Combs <combs@pullman.com>

It's funny, I never knew just how many different lineages of TATES there were until I started trying to find someone of the same lineage. I even found the same exact name from the same area THOMAS JEFFERSON TATE - different line though. I have quite a bit of info on my TATES from good record keeping, but mostly because of a book my grandfather bought in the 70's, "Tates and Allied Families of the South" by Ethel Updike. Also, Wanda Gray (a distant cousin of my mother) also has stuff I would like to sit down and compare with. We knew my gr-gr grandfather THOS. J. TATE had been married twice and we knew the name of the second wife. My aunt, Ann Hunt (you may know her?), who still lives in Waldron, found an article Wanda had put in the paper about SIDDIE DURLEY, the first wife of THOS. J. TATE. We were in shock! A piece of our puzzle fell in our laps! So I know Wanda probably has other info I'd love to see. My grandfather, Johnny TATE, still lives in Waldron also. His health is not good and I've made this a hobby trying to find things out for him while he's still here. Another discovery I stumbled onto was a miracle in itself. In my TATE book it mentioned an ancestor, my daughters' gr-gr-gr-gr-gr-grandmother (8 generations back!!) died while visiting a dau. in Belleville, AR. and was buried there. 1..Rev. William MEERS ***m.Frances Murphy MEERS 2..Dina Ann MEERS m.James Madison TATE 3..Thomas Jefferson TATE m1.Siddie DURLEY m2.F.A. MACKEY 4..Earnest Lee TATE m. Georgia Mae BAGWELL 5..Johnny Lee TATE m. Foye Juanita RHYNE 6..Johnnie Sue TATE m. Charles Ray BROWN 7..Susan Annette BROWN m. Ronald D. JACKSON 8..Kristen M. JACKSON 8..Rachel E. JACKSON Well, I live near Belleville. NO ONE had noticed this in the book before and it's been in the family 20+ years! It said she [Frances Murhpy MEERS] was buried in Lower Falls Cemetery. I started calling around because I didn't grow up here. We moved here in '81. I'd never heard of the cemetery, so I called historians, Catherine Rogers, and old people, even a 98 year old black woman that was born here. NO ONE had heard of the cemetery. I was about to give up hope and one day my husband and I were talking about a cemetery he knew of on his work route named "Lower Spring Creek Cemetery" To hurry the story along, we went to this cemetery not expecting to find anything, and we thought if we did, since she had died in the early 1800's the headstones were totally eroded and mostly broken from that era, so we didn't figure we'd know if we did find it. I was out in the middle of the cemetery and my husband was along the edge and I screamed!! There it was, plain as day, "FRANCES MURPHY MEERS", with a brand new headstone. NO ONE in my family knows who put the headstone there. We didn't even know it existed until I found it, really by accident. Someone else would've had to made the same discovery I made, being the wrong cemetery name and all. We'll never know I guess. What a miracle! The most important thing I learned from this is ALWAYS GO ON YOUR HUNCHES when researching family history. It just my pay off like it did for me! My grandfather, Johnny TATE, was SO excited about my find!!! Keep on surfin' and searchin', Susan Jackson :) --------------5E6D5BA2687E--

Glenda, I noticed you had Robinson listed in Scott Co. surnames. I have a Mahala Cintilda Walker that married and unknown Robinson probably in Scott Co. AR. abt 1880. In the 1880 Scott Co. census Mahala Cintilda Robinson has moved back home with her parents. She must have been with child at the time of the census because in her obit in the Muskogee Daily Phoenix, April 26, 1932 pg.2, a son J.P. Robinson of OK. City is listed. . I have been told there is a Carl Robinson living in Kansas connected to J. P. but I have no further info on the Robinson family. Does this J.P. Robinson show up in your Robinson family? Thank you so much, Shirley
I'M SO PSYCHED! I found a new cousin! Barb Hansen, whom you heard from earlier in "snowy Wyoming", is my first "bite" that turned out to be a keeper! I'm researching the Thomas Jefferson Tates, and there were 2 of them, yes, 2, that lived in the same county for a time. It's been a long and hard road for the last year on here looking for anyone that could relate, but like I said in a letter I posted about finding a long-lost grave in a mis-named cemetery several months ago, DON'T EVER GIVE UP!!!!!! You keep on looking and OFTEN. My hat's off to Delaine for her help in all that she does on here. She's a sweetie pie. God Bless and Good Luck, Susan Jackson in Havana, Yell County, Arkansas
My family in Scott Co. Gentry Frazier I saw another Gentry but inadvertently deleted it. Would like to hear from that Gentry.

Hi all It has been a great week!! I have found two new cousins descended from my gr gr grandmother, LouVicy James Jones Vaughn! Pat contacted me because of a query I had put in last week about a totally different name and come to find out we are "half second cousins once removed"! I contacted Doug because of his posting of the Brothers name and again come to find out, we are cousins..."third cousins once removed"! These are the first cousins I've met that are direct descendedants from LouVicy, escept for immediate family! so you can see how special this has become. I have been very fortunate over the last two years to find many new cousins through this and other mailing list. Some have become a very precious part of my life!! Thank you one and all for reading and responding!! Charlene
