    1. WILLIAM PRESTON MORROW & MELVINA JONES
    2. C. Holland
    3. Hi It has been awhile since I posted this about my great grandfather. Any information on him or his family would be greatly appreciated. He is my "brick wall", as I have been unable to trace who is parents are. He may have had a sister, NANCY A. MORROW, who married JAMES W."JIM" JONES, JR., brother of MELVINA JONES. There was also an orphaned nephew, ISAAC MORROW, which indicates that there was also a brother, but his name is unknown. There was an EDWARD MORROW, born in Indiana, in Scott County in the early 1900's who may have been related, perhaps even his brother. I would appreciate any information on this family. Thanks so much WILLIAM PRESTON MORROW was born 2/1857 in Indiana, and died 3/29/1929 in Scott County, Arkansas, and is buried at Parks Cemetery at Nola. His parents are unknown, but they are believed to have been born in Indiana (according to census records of W.P.’s). He married MELVINA JONES 1880-1882. She was daughter of JAMES W. JONES and LOUVICY JAMES. They were married before the Waldron Courthouse burned so there are no marriage records, consequently whereabouts of marriage is unknown. Children of William Morrow and Melvina Jones are: i. SAMUEL FRANKLIN3 MORROW, b. 8/1882, Scott County Arkansas; d. Unknown, Texas; m. MILLIE ANN JONES, 11/15/1903, Scott County Arkansas. She was the daughter of daughter of WILLIAM SMITH "BILL" JONES and JULIA HENSON. Frank and Millie Morrow moved to Harlingen, Texas between 1904 and 1914. They had six sons. ii. ALICE C. MORROW, b. 12/27/1884, Scott County, Arkansas; d. 12/20/1970, Scott County, Arkansas; m. JACOB DOLPHIN HALE, 10/31/1901, Scott County, Arkansas. He was the son of JOHN HALE and MARY WILLIAMS. They had one son. iii. ELLA (LOU ELLA) MORROW, b. 10/12/1886, Scott County, Arkansas; d. 2/29/1972, Scott County, Arkansas; m. ALBERT JOSLIN, Abt 1905, Arkansas or Oklahoma. He was the son of son of JIM JOSLIN and MARGARET FARR. They had two daughters. iv. BENJAMIN ALLEN MORROW, b. 6/20/1888, Scott County, Arkansas; d. 4/03/1974, Tulsa, Oklahoma, buried Parks Cemetery at Nola; m. OLLIE CLEMENTINE HARRIS, 9/01/1907, Scott County, Arkansas. she was the daughter of daughter of ROBERT M. HARRIS and LAURAH BELLE JOURNEY. They had five children v. MOLLIE S. MORROW, b. 2/02/1893, Scott County, Arkansas; d. 11/16/1960, Scott County, Arkansas; m. GOVERNOR MITCHELL, Bef 1918. His parents are unknown. They had at least one son. I am also interested in finding information on the parents of GOVERNOR MITCHELL, who married their youngest daughter. Charlene

    3. Okay, I'm venturing out onto a new limb. I have very little info on these sides of my family. All I have are some names; no dates. However, it has been published twice since then abstracted by Gary B.Mills...first back in the 1980's and again last year. It is available in ONE Volume and the cost is realistic. "Southern Loyalists in the CIVIL WAR, The Southern Claims Commission" by Gary B. Mills available to buy in 1998 from Genealogical Publishing Company,, Inc., 1001 N. 1. Re: Time for a Roll Call?
    2. My Scott County ancestors were Thomas J. METCALF born 1820 in TN and wife Elizabeth born 1822 in TN. They lived in Texas from 1848, possibly before, until 1869 when they moved to Scott County, Arkansas. They had 12 children, all born in Texas: Francis Marion, William H. (Ham), Andrew Jackson, Mary, George Washington, Martha, Nancy, Thomas J., Joseph Anderson (Joe), James Monroe, Samuel Houston (Sam), and Henry Howard. One of their children, George Washington, was born in Harrison County, TX and this is where they were living when they migrated from Texas to Scott Co, Arkansas. I have not found them listed on the Texas census or any other records in Texas. Thomas and Elizabeth METCALF homesteaded land in the Packsaddle Community of Scott County and are listed on the 1870 census, Tumbleston TS, pg. 17-18, 129/130. Age Birthplace METCALF, Thomas 50 TN Elizabeth 48 TN Marion 22 TX William 20 TX Andrew 18 TX Mary 17 TX Washington 15 TX Martha 12 TX Nancy 11 TX Thomas 9 TX Joseph 7 TX James 6 TX Houston 4 TX Columbus 2 TX I am searching for the parents of Thomas and Elizabeth METCALF and for Elizabeth's maiden name. Joseph Anderson (Joe), my great grandfather, was born in Waco, McLennan Co., TX. He was married 3 times, first to Mollie (HUTTO) METCALF 24 Jul 1889, second to Nellie CATING 18 Jul 1900,and third to Annie CANTRELL 14 Feb 1918. Joesph and Annie moved to Lake City, Craighead Co, AR. He died there 17 Sep 1921. I am descended from his first marriage to Mollie (HUTTO) METCALF. I would like to correspond with anyone from the HUTTO, CATING and CANTRELL families who has connections or information to share. 3. My great grandfather was Jacob Robert Crump. He was married to Jane McVey, Lexanner Thayson, and to Adeline Lawrence Brown in Scott County. His children by Jane McVey were Leonder Crump and Annie Crump. Leonder married a Blackwell. His children by Adeline Brown were Rufus Butler (Bud) Crump and Dovie Crump. Bud married Christian Ann Rose (mother was Rebecca Scott Rose). Dovie married John Clopton. We believe Jacob left Scott county sometime after 1885, but we don't know where he went. We would like to make contact with anyone who may know of any of this family.

    3. Dale, I don't know of anything online that includes these "Southern Claims Files". They book was just recently "republished" and I raced to get a copy...before that time, only one known copy was available in Arkansas to use and that was at the Ft. Smith Library. Scott AR Commission NO. 18800 Office No. 197, Report #7, filed in 1877, Status D.(denied) TATE, Jeremiah J. Scott AR Commission No. 18799, Office NO. ---, Report No. 4, filed 1874, Status A (allowed) TATE, Zachariah, Yell AR Commission NO. 19800 Office NO.-----, Report No. ---, year------, Status B (Barred) One man I gave these files to on his ancestor, received a 300 page family history, he said it had cleared up years of guessing and errors on his families...his was out of VA not ARk...but, mine in Ark. were really GOOD!!!!!!! write to : General Reference Branch National Archives Washington, DC 20408 request a copy of the claim file, specify "Southern Claim Files" specify Ark and Scott County and include all the data I gave you for the file. Send NO money, they will search and see if the file survived and will notify you of that and the number of pages in the file, and the AMOUNT you need to send if you want to order the file...then you send it back with check and they will mail you the full claim file. 1. ROLL CALL
    2. Bryce W. Self
    3. Scott County Surnames: Self -- all families, especially descendants of Joseph L., but including other families descended from Jesse Self of Walker, GA. Highfield/Highfill -- Rebecca Highfield = Alvin Walter Self, any info on descendants & ancestry of her grandfather Thomas Highfield (b. 1815 KY). Huston -- Fern Ruth Huston = Arvil Almer Self, her parents Rev. James Harvey Huston & Mary Elizabeth Fields, have no further information. Farnsworth #1-- Martha Jane Self (daughter of Jesse) = Thomas Jefferson Farnsworth, brother of #2 George Washington Farnsworth. Farnsworth #2 -- Martha Ann Self (daughter of Joseph L.) = George Washington Farnsworth, brother of #1 Thomas Jefferson Farnsworth. Those are the main lines, but I'm researching ALL descendants of these Self families, whether in the male or female line or whatever surname.
