Would like to know if anyone has information on Louella Jameson (also sp. Jimmerson) she married Rueben Smith. A relative said he thought she lived at Booneville or Danville for years. She had a son who lived in Heavener, OK. Does this sound familiar to anyone? Louella (Lucy) was the daughter of Clay Jameson (Jimmerson in 1860 Scott Co. Census). She was born about 1864. Thanks in advance for any info. A fellow researcher reports that an old cemetery as per the following directions is located in Scott Co. Can anyone verify this? ".....Rose Cemetary is North between Mt. Ida and Waldren[sic] about half a mile off of 270 on an old logging road." Thanks for your help, Debra Blackard
Hi all: I'm still searching for any information on the BARNETT's living in Scott Co. in 1870 and 80. Lucinda BARNETT b. 1856 in Ga. She was the daughter of Thomas BARNETT b.1832 in NC. Narcissis his wife was b.1828 in N.C. I have no info on her. They also had a son James BARNETT b. 1861 in Ar. This has been a most elusive part of our family. Lucinda married a Franklin W. STATON. In 1870 STATON's and BARNETT's were found living next door to one another when Franklin and Lucinda were teenagers. I have a large oval framed potrait of Lucinda hanging on my wall. She was widowed quite young and later married a man by the name of WHITEHEAD and had several children by him. Any information you can give me on the BARNETT family would be much appreciated. Hi all Thank you one and all for help. It was really appreciated. Isn't this what it's all about....sharing information!! I had an overwhelming amount of responses. All very positive about the upgrade from FTM Version 3 to Version 5. A lot of people said to be sure and back up my files before hand "just in case"! I have gotten the new version today, but don't have it installed yet. Charlene
Jacob HARKEY is found in the 1880 Lafave Twp., Scott Co., AR census. He was married to a lady named Elvira. The notes that I have concerning Jacob says that he was married to a Miss JONES. Could her name have been Elvira JONES? Jacob and Miss Jones, according to the family notes, had a son named Vee Ex Zee, born in 1881. Jacob died in 1882 on a cattle drive. Jacob's daughter, Alice HARKEY, married Thomas GILBREATH on 28 Sep 1882. After Jacob died (Elvira was wife #2), did she become responsible for her siblings? Does anyone have Alice and Thomas GILBREATH in their family? Also, in a letter written by Rosco L. HARKEY, Sr. of Little Rock, AR to Walter J. HARKEY of Plainview, AR, Rosco mentions Jacob's five children: Julius, Dutch (Murat Otho), Hagood, "and two sisters, namely Sis Harkey and Edith Harkey." Who is Sis? In the 1880 Census, two other girls were listed Alice and Cinderella. I know Alice lived to adulthood, so was she "Sis"? If so, what happened to Cinderella? Did Edith I. E. HARKEY (as listed on 1880 Census) live to adulthood? If so, did she stay in Scott County? I also know very little about Jacob's son, Murat Otho HARKEY. The last Census info that I have on him is 1900 Cedar Twp., Scott Co., AR. Julius Wellington Cromwell HARKEY, Jacob's oldest son, lived in Lafave Twp. According to the 1900 Census, he was married to Margaret Turner. Their children in 1900 were Buena, Roscoe, and Ranzy. I know they left Scott County in the early 1900s and moved to the Paraloma/Ashdown, AR area before heading to McCurtain County, OK. When did they leave Scott County? I know he bought land from the Bureau of Land Management, but that's about all I know. What should I ask for at the courthouse? Any suggestions on where to look for these family members?

Hi all I hope this is not an inappropriate place to ask this question, but here goes. I have Family Tree Maker 3 and am thinking of installing Family Tree Maker 5. I currently have over 7000 names in my database, and I am wondering if I will be able to transfer those names to the upgraded version. Has anyone out there upgraded from the Version Three to Version Five, and were there any problems doing so? Please respond privatly to char@presys.com Thanks very much Charlene
Delaine's suggestion we repost surnames of those we received no response in the roll call was an excellent one. Here is my wish list: James Lewis Williams b 1836 in Tennessee spouse: Effie Lou Butler (or Lou Effie) b 1837 Tennessee - children in 1880 census of Scott County were: Nathan H. born 1864 Tn. married Cordelia Smith, 1891, probably LeFlore County (I.T.) John T. born 1865 Tn. married Lizzie Barnes Stokes Sarah F. born 1869 Tn married Charlie Beeler. Died in childbirth James R. born 1871 Arkansas wife's name Dee Mag Dorie born 1873 Arkansas died young Etha (Ethel) born 1875 Arkansas married 1st C. B. Robinson, 2nd John Arthur Stevens Ella H. born 1876 Arkansas (Etha and Ella's birth dates could be incorrrect) - Ella married 1st Fred Werli, 2nd Calvin Shipley Samuel D. born 1877 Arkansas, never married, no children George Washington born 1879 Arkansas married Addie E. Fullbright I just recently learned James Lewis Williams served in Civil War on Confederate side. Effie Butler Williams had a brother who was killed in Civil War. Effie is buried in Weeks Cemetery with a nice headstone. Burial site for James Lewis is unknown nor date of death. If he is buried at Weeks, no marker exists. Where would Scott County residents who were Civil War veterans likely have been taken for burial and were would the markers for Civil War veterans be obtained between 1900-1910? On the Werli side, Fred's mother was Barbara Burger Werli of Scott County. We would like to know when Michael Burger died and where he is buried. Any information or suggestions appreciated. Betty Williams Davis
Hi All, The postings to this list seem to have slowed down the last few days, so now I'd like to ask those of you who posted your surnames or other inquiries and received no response to please post them again. If possible, this time tell us everything you can about the families - what time period they may have been in Scott Co., what other families the children may have married into (if known) - just anything you can tell us that may give some additional clues about these families. I've certainly enjoyed and learned from all the dialogue on this list lately and hope we can continue to have an active discussion list here. Delaine Edwards
Hello Fellow Scott County Rooters, I am interested in getting an accurate answer to the real middle name of my gr gr grandfather, Charlie V. STRINGER. He was born 17 Jun 1882 in Scott Co., Arkansas. He died in Hon on 31 Dec 1961. First of all, his death certificate records his name as Charles Vernasher. The informant was his third wife, Mrs. Ola STRINGER. However, I have also seen his middle name spelled Vanasher. My grandfather, and Charlie's oldest son by his first wife, Arthur Lawrence STRINGER, told me in the 1970's (some 15 years before Arthur's death and when his memory was still good) that his father's middle name was Van Meter. I understand that there are some VAN METER's living in Scott Co. Did Charlie's parents have so much respect for the VAN METER clan that they would attach that fine moniker to their oldest son? Was Arthur simply confused - remembering the VAN METER family name rather than his father's true middle name? As far as I can tell, there were no "Vanasher" or "Vernasher" names in either of Charlie's parents' families. I have found another Van Meter family up in Missouri where his parents came from. I am not emotionally attached to any particular theory. I just want to be accurate in my record-keeping. Please help if you can. Doug Stringer shinnosuke_stringer@msn.com Houston, TX
