Lynne maybe this 1850 census report of your JONES family will help unscramble some of the children. Some of those mixed up ages of children should indicate that they are indeed neices and nephews not their own children: 1850 Scott County, Arkansas census report JONES, John age 40 NC, Delila age 40 NC, Mary J. age 16, John L. age 5, Martha E. age 3, Jesse D. age 1-1/12, VAILS, Mary E. age 1, Dwelling 5, Hickman Township, Scott County, Arkansas. I never could find them in 1860 Scott county census. Faye RBates3174@aol.com wrote: > > Hello, > I am trying to research the Jones families from Scott County. Thanks Faye, I did find Pilot Knob, Pilot Church and Pilot Cemetery. But the Pilot Creek is new to me. I appreciate your reply. Georgia Aeverman
I've just uploaded an index to the heads of household on the 1880 Scott Co. Census. Lookups from this census have always been and still are available, but now you'll be able to check the index for yourselves to see if your family was listed. We'll see how this works out and it may be worthwhile to upload the index for some of the other years as well. On this 1880 index, I've also listed everyone who was within a household but with a different surname. Those are marked with an *. You'll find the link to this index on the Scott Co. webpage at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~arscott/scott.html The link will be found in the list of Scott Co. Records & Indexes. Hope this will be of benefit to many of you who are searching for your Scott Co. ancestors. Delaine
HI, I am still trying to research the Jones families especially the ones from Brawley Township. Several Jones families from Scott County relocated in the mid to late 1890's to Pontotoc County, Indian Territory. Does anyone have any information on this? There was also a Jefferson Davis Jones from Scott County who relocated to Pontotoc County who has an interesting story. Does anyone know who he is descended from? Thanks Lynne
I hope someone was able to help Georgia with the location of a Pilot community. I suspect it may be in Logan County, but that's just a guess on my part. The following link, which is listed on the Scott Co. Webpage under "Genealogical & Research Links" near the bottom of the main page is usually a help for this kind of information: US Geological Survey Query Form: http://mapping.usgs.gov/www/gnis/gnisform.html Just fill in "Pilot" and choose Arkansas as the state and you'll get quite a bit of information. Hello, I am trying to research the Jones families from Scott County. According to our family history all the Jones who came from Alabama were related in some fashion or another. I am looking for help in trying to tie them all together. Does anyone have information on John and Delilah Jones found in the 1860 census Brawley township, house #8, family #7. They had the following living with them: James M. age 26; John L. age 14; Martha E. age 12; Josephine age 7; Jesse D. age 11; Franklin age 7; John age 19; Jas M. age 7; and Mary J. age 4. This is the order that they were listed on the cenus, which seems like a strange listing as they usually are in age order. Can anyone help me with this family? John and Delilah also does not appear in the 1870 census. Thank you Lynne Bates
I'd like to wish all of you a very Happy Thanksgiving. Charlene Holland has contributed partial listings of the Parks Cemetery at Nola and the Mt. Moriah Cemetery. They are available in the Scott Co. Archives at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ar/scott/scott.html If you can add any tombstones you've read from either of these cemeteries, please contact Charlene at char@presys.com or me at delaine@ipa.net and we'll add your information. I hope none of you will overeat today. ;-) Delaine
Mary Stinson has copied and contributed some Scott County cemeteries to the USGenWeb Archives. Check out the Scott County Archives at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ar/scott/scott.html Delaine

To all Highfill researchers, Today I was transcribing the Southern Claim for Jacob P. Tate of Scott County and ran across the following information that I thought would be of interest. The following is from the deposition of Martin Nelson to the loyalty (to the Union) of Jacob P. Tate, dated Dec. 23, 1874. "In answer to Question 60 witness answers and says "His, claimants, public reputation during the war was that of a Union and loyal man to the United States government. I know this by having Union men speak of it. I heard William Hunt, Thomas Hyfield, who was killed by the rebels for his loyalty to the Union, Judson Tate, Thomas Tate, his brother, speak of it. George Terry, James Terry, Jesse James and others could testify to his loyal reputation." If anyone out there would like a copy of the original document, let me know and I would be happy to send a copy to you. Sandy Conant emryscon@aol.com
Delaine, I have three more photos to send you. Two are mystery phots and one more Waldron School class photos, probably 6th grade 1926 . Please resend your mailing address and I promise to put it in my address book this time. Thanks Barb Hansen (in Wyoming)
Does anyone know where Oak Hill Cemetery is located? I thought in Scott Co. but could be wrong. Thanks- Cincy
Glenda Brothers whose Email address is gbrothers@c-zone.net asked me to announce that she has been having Email problems for the last 3-4 days. If you've written her and she hasn't responded after about a week, please resend your message to her. Thanks. Delaine Edwards
i am seeking information on james t jones who died in 1883 and is buried in cedar grove cemetery. which is located near Boothe in the northern part of scott co. i believe him to be the brother of william price and seaborn t jones who are also buried in that cemetery.
Barbara, Sorry I don't have anything more than you do. I have the book The Early Yandells of North Carolina and some of their Descendants 1737-1982 by Velma Nancyann Yarbrough. Was sure she would have more on James W. Yandell b. 1862; m 15 July 1883 in Scott Co., Ark. Mary Elizabeth Terry. b. ca 1867, but she doesn't carry his line down any further. She has done a great job. My mother in law's grandpa was Cary Allen Yandell. I do have the book and if anyone out there needs something looked up I will be happy to do so. Just give me a few days to get it done as I am quite busy. Or the book (if still in print) can be obtained from V.Nan Yarbrough, Rte. 4, Box 202, Shawnee, Ok 74801. I am looking for the family of Mary E. Terry. This Mary E. Terry* (there are many) was married to William Steve Osborn. They are the grandparents of my great aunt, Wilma Lou Hudson, who married my grandfather's brother Audie Hale. Mary was first married to James W. Yandell on July 15, 1883 and had two children - Ruth and Buddie Yandell. James was the son of William Monroe Yandell and Mary Pruitt. William Steve Osborn and Mary E. Terry were married July 20, 1890 in Scott County, Arkansas. According to my aunt's family bible, Mary was the daughter of George and Irene Terry. I know of several George Terry's but do not find one who's wife was named Irene. William Steve, known as Steve, and Mary had the following children: Lucy, Bonnie, Elva, Minnie, Margaret, Maud and Leola. I would so appreciate if anyone can solve this riddle for me. Thanks very much. Barbara Hale Reynolds *It's possible that Mary's middle name was Ezell, which is how it is listed in my aunt's bible
