    1. Civil War Pension Files
    2. Delaine Edwards
    3. Eight Scott Co. pension files have been uploaded to the Scott Co. Archives so far. I want to thank Cindy McKean & Shirley Denney who have contributed several and also Terri Walker & Betty Leeper for their contributions. Also the others who have contacted me and will be contributing to this effort. These files are valuable not only to the descendants of the pension applicants but to others trying to establish the residence of a particular person at a certain time period in Scott Co: many, many afffidavits are included in these pension files and several were from that difficult 1890s time period. Please let me hear from any of the rest of you who may have Scott Co. pension applications for the Civil War period or earlier and would like to have them made available to other researchers via the USGenWeb Archives. The files that have already been uploaded are available in the Scott County Archives or through the Civil War Link on the Scott County webpage: http://www.rootsweb.com/~arscott/scott.htm OR through the Scott Co Archives page at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ar/scott/scott.html Delaine Edwards

    1. J.P. Thompson, born 1834 in Alabama
    2. Dale Thompson
    3. Hi everyone, I'm looking for any info. on J.P. Thompson, born abt. 1834 somewhere in Al. He moved to Ar. sometime around 1850 with his father, probably James Thompson born abt. 1816 in N.C. J.P. married Frances Spencer, born abt. 1840 in Ar. her mother's name may have been Mary Spencer who shows up in the 1850 Ar. Census with a child Frances who is 10 years old. J.P. and Frances married in Sevier Co. Ar. around 1854 and their first child, Mary Jane was born in 1856. They had eleven children total including, Andrew, born 1859, John Perry, born 1861, James Travis, born 1866, Frances Pearlie, born 1867, Green, born 1870, Solomon Riley, born 1873, Robert, born 1876, and Marion, born unk. There are other children whose names I am not sure of. Some of the kids were born in Ar. and some in I.T. (now Okla.) J.P. fought in the Civil War in the 24th Ar. Inf. Regiment and in the 19th Ar. Inf. Regiment. Later lived in Yell Co. Arkansas. I have his Civil War Records, he drew a pension, his papers say he was a "long time Scott County resident". I think it is possible that he lived in the eastern part of the county where it borders on Yell Co. as he and his family show up in the 1870 Yell Co. Census, Upper LaFave Township. This Census lists them as farmers. Does anyone know of any Agricultural Schedules or anything down at the county level that would help me? I need to identify his siblings or parents so that I can continue my research. Listed living with the family is James (appears to be L.) Thompson, age 54, invalid, born N.C. I think this may be his father, but am not sure. I would gladly share anything that I have with anyone interested in this family. Dale Thompson

    1. HUTCHINSON of Alabama and Scott County, Arkansas
    2. C. Holland
    3. Hi I am looking for information and verification, if possible about the the following HUTCHINSON family of Scott County. A.J. Hutchinson, maiden name unknown. Only know her initials. She was born about 1832 in Alabama and was first found in the 1870 Scott County, Hunt Twp #39/39. She was living next to Thomas and Emeline Johnson and two dwellings from David & Harriet (Hutchinson) Wilson at #41/41. She may have died before 1880 in Arkansas. This theory is based on the fact her daughter, Lurilla Ellen, may have been the girl named Ellen, who was a ward of Thomas Johnson in 1880. Nothing else is known about A.J. Hutchinson, includine what her first and middle name may have been. I believe she and Mr. Hutchinson had at least the following children: i. Hesakiah A. Hutchinson, born between 1849 - 1854 in Alabama. He was found in 1870 Scott County, Hunt Twp #60/60 with wife and son. He was 21. In 1880 he was found in James Twp #53 at age 26, with a wife, 2 daughters and 1 son, which was not the son in 1870. It is not proven he is son of this family, but I think it is a fair possiblity. He married Mary E. before 1870. The known children of Hesakiah Hutchinson and Mary E. were: a. William J. Hutchinson, born 1870 in Arkansas. He was found in 1870 in the Scott County census, Hunt Twp #60/60, but I did not find him in 1880, so I am assuming he may have died before 1880 in Arkansas. b. Sarah J. Hutchinson, born about 1873 and was found in the 1880 Scott County Census, James Twp #53 at age 7 with her parents. c. James O. Hutchinson, born about 1875, was found in the 1880 Scott County Census, James Twp #53 at age 5. d. Mary Hutchinson, was born about 1879 and was found in the 1880 Scott County Census, James Twp #53 at age 1. I know nothing else about the above children, except they were found in the 1880 census. Were they in Scott County in 1900? ii. Harriet Frances Hutchinson, born October 1852 in Alabama. She is first found in 1870 Hunt Twp #41/41 living two dwellings from A.J. Hutchinson, with her first husband, David Wilson. She is found in 1880, listed as Francis, again with David Wilson. They are living next door to where her sister is living with Thomas Johnson. She died in Scott County Arkansas, and is buried at Mt. Moriah Cemetery. She married (1) David A. Wilson about 1870, or shortly before, in Scott County Arkansas. They were found living next door to David’s mother, Mary Wilson, who was at #42/42. Living with Mrs. Wilson was Isaac J., and John Wilson, and also Sarah, James and William Welch were in the household. David A. Wilson was born 1847 in Alabama and died 1898 in Scott County Arkansas. He is buried at Parks Cemetery near Nola in an unmarked grave. He was the son of Mathew Wilson and Mary Hollis Bryant. After David died, Harriet married Israel Roland Brothers on January 29, 1899 in Scott County Arkansas, the marriage being performed by T.D. Self, M.G. (Scott County Marriage Book B, p.437. He was the son of William Brothers and Mary Hunt. Any information on this family would be appreciated. I do have quite a bit of information and would be glad to share it. iii. Priscilla Emaline (Emmerine) Hutchinson, born November 1853 in Madison County, Alabama. She married Thomas Johnson. iv. James R. Hutchinson, born Abt. 1855 in Alabama. He is first found in the 1870 Scott County, Hunt Twp #39/39 with mother and then he is found in 1880 living in Blancett Twp #95/96 with a wife and 3 children. He married Martha E., maiden name unknown. The known children of James Hutchinson and Martha E. are: a. James M. Hutchinson, born about 1876. He was first found in the1880 Scott County Census, Blancett Twp #95/96 at age 4. b. Benjamin F. Hutchinson, born about 1878 and found in the same census record at age 2. Does anyone know anything about this family. Were there more children? Were they in Scott County later than 1880? v. Henrietta E. Hutchinson, born about 1857 and first found in the 1870 Scott County, Hunt Twp #39/39 at age 13. Nothing else is known. Who did she marry? Was she in Scott County after 1800? vi. Lurilla Ellen Hutchinson, born about 1863 and first found in the 1870 Scott County, Hunt Twp #39/39 living with her mother. I think she may be the Ellen Hutchison found living with the Thomas Johnson family in 1880 James Twp#71 as a ward at age 15. Nothing else is known. Who did she marry? Was she in Scott County after 1800? Thanks much for taking a look at this, and would really appreciate any iformation about these families. Charlene

    1. 1870 Census Index
    2. Delaine Edwards
    3. Last night I added the 1870 Scott County Census Index to the webpage. Now I'd like to ask for some input from any of you who may have Civil War pension applications for your ancestors who lived at any time in Scott Co. I would like to put transcriptions of these records into the Scott Co. Archives. I will begin by adding two that I have, both Union soldiers: John P. Newborn who lived and died at Parks and served from Scott Co. and William F. Cates who served from Missouri but lived at Boles after the war and applied for his pension from there. I think these pension applications will be useful information in that they often include affidavits from various people in the neighborhood where the applicant lived. Please let me hear from any of you who may have copies of your ancestors' pension files and are willing to have them added to the Archives. If you are unable to transcribe them but are willing to send me a photocopy I can get them transcribed for you. Thanks! Delaine

    1. B.C. Harris death date
    2. C. Holland
    3. Hi all!! As I was researching family who had married into a family who is related to me (does that make sense?!!)I came across proof that my great grandfather, B.C. Harris died after 1900! Most all who have researched this family has assumed that he had died in 1900. I thought he had died between 1900 and 1903 and today I found a marriage that he had performed on February 18, 1901! So it really pays off to research those collateral families. You never know what you might dig up! Now, my question is: Does anyone out there know of any marriages he may have performed after that date? Does anyone know of when he did die? It is assumed, and correctly I think, that he is buried at Parks Cemetery near Nola in an unmarked grave in the Harris plot. Anyway, thanks for any help you can give me. Charlene

    1. Re: ARSCOTT-D Digest V98 #110 gedcom
    2. sure. Just tell the program when it opens the file that it is filename.ged and the gedcom application kicks in. Be sure to tell it where to put it facts when it asks or they may not pick up. There should be a section in your manual on gedcoms. If it does not work the way you want, delete the resulting filename.ftw file and redo or you can overwrite it. Good luck, Noma Lee Kelton Henderson

    2. Betty J. Cox
    3. Charlene, I'm not sure what you have, but I'm assuming it's on a floppy. Try putting it into your A drive then go to "My Computer", click on A drive, then double click on the file. If it is a gedcom file, it should open your FTM program. Just follow the instructions, but remember that when you convert it to a FTM file, you have to put it on your hard drive (C:\). FTM files will not work from A drive. Hope this helps. BJ

    1. Baldwin Family in Harvey/Scott Co. Ark
    2. Home System
    3. I am looking for information on the half brother of my Great Grandfather. The name is Sam E. Baldwin and he was born in Harvey Arkansas in 1875 according to my records. His father was Willis Dodson Baldwin and his mother is name unknown. When my Great Grandfather died, he listed him as still living in Waldron, Ark. (this was 1943). So, I am sure he stayed in the area, and probably procreated a bit. I have a record that showed an obituary for Mrs. Sam Baldwin in the 1941 Scott County Obituaries. But that is all I have. Can anyone help? abaljar@lycosmail.com

    1. John & Delilah Jones Family
    2. Delaine Edwards
    3. This family was on the 1860 Sebastian Co. census in Brawley Twp., part of the area that was taken from Scott Co. in 1851 and then returned to Scott Co. in 1861. If any of your families lived in the western part of Scott Co. in 1850, you may find them on the 1860 census in Sebastian Co. That part of the 1860 Sebastian Co. census is published with our Scott Co. census so they should show up when you request a lookup from the 1860 census.
