    1. William Preston Morrow Indiana to Scott County, Arkansas
    2. Charlene Holland
    3. Hi all! I am still looking for information about my great grandfather's, William Preston Morrow, parents. All I know is they were born in Indiana. An old family legend says that these Morrows were from Ireland originally. There were three Morrows in Scott County Arkansas in the 1880s and later. All were born in Indiana, and I think they may have been brothers and sister. Below is a descendant outline of these families. I have been able to trace the descendants of William Preston Morrow, and some of Nancy Morrow's. I have not been able to trace Isaac Morrow and Winnie Pitts after 1920. Any help with these families would be appreciated. Thanks so much Charlene Descendants of Mr. Morrow 1 Mr. Morrow Born: in Indiana. 3. Lavonne Below is an answer I just sent to another person. Mine is Stricklin. Let me know if they connect. Will be glad to exchange info if they do. Glenda Brothers gbrothers@syix.com I don't have much on the Stricklin Family but our Edna Stricklin b. 1838 Tn, d 1898 Ark, md 1865 in Tishaming (now Alcorn) Co. Miss. to John Coffe Kemp b. 1834 tn, d, 1904 Scott Co Ark, their daughter Judy Caroline Kemp b 1872 Miss md Clement Adkins Corley 1874 ala, d. 1961 Poteau, LeFlore Co. Ok. and their da Eva Maybelle Corley md 1917 Daniel Ransom Yandell s/o Cary Allen Yandell and Visa Ann Brothers. Yes Brothers family on both sides of family and to really confuse things the above Clement Adkins Corley's parent were both Corleys. Hadn't worked this line in a long while. As for the Yandells I have quite a bit on them not all of it in my computer, and also have the Yandell book by Nan Yarborough. I just found a family group sheet I had filled out and forgot about. With note 1880 Scott co Ark Census dist 171 Nancy listed with son Ben 2 houses from Edna and Joh Kemp.....then Echoes, Scott co Ark Gen Soc V. 10 # XV p 17-18 as a reference to the info on group sheet. Like I said I haven't worked this line in a couple of years but if you have any further info or if I might have something else you would like I will be happy to exchange info. I am interested in all those that were in the family, any stories etc. It's funny I now remember that someone had a Moses Killion listed with them in one of the census's with him as an uncle. I will have to look that up again. I am off and running in genealogy again and I am supposed to paint 3 rooms of my home this weekend. I am on call for the hospital next weekend an work all week. So if I am a little slow answering don't give up. Just give me a nudge if I take to long. 2. Charlene Holland
    3. Hi all A couple of weeks ago I put in a query about a photo that I wanted to identify. I want to thank all the folks that responded, and took the time to send the picture along to friends or relatives to help identify the photo. I have been told that it was the Silas Shruggs Stacey home, store and post office in Marble City, in Newton County ( At the time, I hadn't known if the picture was taken in Newton or Scott County). And it was taken ca 1885. Marble City was a little ways above Jasper, and no longer exists, although Marble Falls is still there. It is located where Dogpatch USA is. Again thank you all. You have been great, as usual! Charlene

    2. Camille, I had to reply to your comments on Scott County AR. My roots are there, too. I lived in Bates as a child, though I was born in TX. My parents were married there. I attended school in Bates for a couple of years. I wonder if your grandmother remembers the Fruen family. My father was Grady Fruen. His brother Ellis, known as Dick, Fruen and family lived in Bates. My grandmother, Belle Fruen lived there. My grandfather, Will Fruen died in 1944, Belle in 1964. I also have a connection to the Pepper family. John Hendrix and wife Rose Whitlock were my great grandparents. The Sliger's are a connection as well. My mother was a Ralls. Her parents were Charley and Lottie (Hendrix) Ralls. Let me know if any of these names are familiar to you. I agree with you that Delaine is wonderful. She has been so helpful to me as well. Georgia (Fruen) Aeverman

    1. Re: Scott County people
    2. Camille L
    3. Well, I just have to add to the praise concerning Scott County residents that I read on the list by Charlene and Juanita. At first, I wasn't really sure that the list would be the appropriate place, but then I wanted everyone on it to know. Although, there are great people all over the world, if you look with your heart, Scott County is definately special. I, too, was born in Oklahoma, but my maternal grandparents were both from Scott County and I have many relatives still living there today. I spent a lot of time in Arkansas during my youth and even lived there briefly (much too brief to satisfy me) and attended the H.S. and those are some of the most treasured times in my life. I still keep in contact with a few of my friends. Although, I have been living in Texas since 1985, it has always been a dream of mine to return to Scott County, where I lost my heart. When people ask me where I am from and who I am...I tell them it is not an easy answer, b/c I am a city girl with a country heart. Together with my grandparents I own some property there and as soon as I finish my educational goals and can afford to support myself, I plan on returning. Speaking of which, both my maternal grandparents are still living (although they are getting up there), my maternal great-grandmother was a mid-wife in the area. I'm planning a trip to visit them soon. One purpose is because I miss them and need to see them, but the other is to ask questions concerning my family's history that I can not afford to do long-distance. If anyone has NOT been able to identify any of their "mystery" photos, I would like to get them and see if she might be able to identify them. Or, if anyone has any questions, that they might like to see if she can shed some light on, I will be able to take a list of those, too. She was raised in the Bates/Cauthron area. She is definately interested in genealogy and knows a lot of details, however, she never had the time to write any of it down (guess we just all kept her too busy with the day to day stuff that was more important, such as trying to instill good old-fashioned family values in us). I remember the books that she bought to do this years ago, they were beautiful but, alas they have remained empty...I hope to change that (although most of my information, is in electronic form now). Best wishes and happy hunting to all who read this, Camille P.S. I would also like to express my personal gratitude to Delaine, she has been a tremendous help to me. When I make it "home," I intend to offer to join her local team and give of my time, in helping her fulfill the demands of her "project," if she needs me. :o) [I'm putting this here...so that she will know my intention and "call" me on it, when I get there :o)].
