I am posting this for Brenda, who is evidently not a subcriber to this list. Charlene, Here is a web site for a perpetual calendar. If you have a death date, you could figure backwards to the birthdate. http://www.drmag.com/calendar.asp or the link: <A HREF="http://www.drmag.com/calendar.asp">Perpetual Calendar</A> Georgia Aeverman
Elijah Thresher, the boarder in the following census record, was born November 1870. He was 29 years old and single. He was born in Tennessee according to this record, as were his parents. 1900 Scott County Census James Twp#95/95, the Elihu Bayrd Family Elihu Bayrd Hd Oct 1869 30 M/14 KY KY TN Tiercy I. Si Oct 1883 16 Sgl AR KY AR Elijah Thresher Bo Nov 1870 29 Sgl TN TN TN I was unable to find him in the 1880 census of Scott County, although there was one Thresher family listed: 1880 Scott County Census, Hickman Twp #182/186 Hugh Thresher 28 w m Md Farming TN __ __ Julie A. 21 w f Md TN NC TN I dont know if this family is connected to Elijah Thresher. I did find the following marriage record, which I think imay be the same man: E.L. Thresher, 32, of Stringer, to Deller Gattlen, 21, of Stringer on July 10, 1904. Marriage Book C, page 278. I did not find him in 1910 or 1920 Scott County census records. Does anyone out there know anything about this man? Thanks much Charlene
I may have sent this directly to Charlene rather than sharing with all. You can tuck this onto your favorite sites. http://www.rootsweb.com/~inorange/cemformula.htm"
This is in reply to Charlene Holland's question. The technique is referred to as the "8870" formula. It's a bit tricky at first and you have to know a bit about the deceased to make it work, but it's pretty darn clever all the same. It goes like this-- Example: Joe Smith died on 1889 May 6. This translates into the number 18890506. He was aged 71 yrs., 7 months, 9 days. This translates into the number 710709. Subtract 18890506-710709 = 18179797 Subtract again 18179797-8870 = 18170927 Thus, Joe Smith was born 1817 Sept. 27. The only really hard part is knowing precisely how many years, months, and days Joe Smith lived. Hopefully the tombstone will have birth and death dates. With that and a pocket caculator you're in business. Good luck. (And you thought YOU had too much time on your hands!)
Chill. I just wrote a similar note. I am on many lists, and the best data and responses seem to come when subject line and some data is included. I don't think Margie Myers <bmyers@viclink.com> was being rude at all. People are just trying to help.
Stella ALLEY was born about 1883 to Martin and Sarah (MAYNARD) ALLEY. She married Samuel Benjamin Lock in 1908 in Scott Co. This was apparently Ben's second marriage. Does anyone know whom he married the first time? Also, looking for names of their children. Thanks, Carla
Roll calls work better and get more genealogical data if names and dates of the known people's names and dates are included. A few people are doing this but, most just say Wilson, Welch, James, Jones, etc. I have mucho data about Scott County, and would love to share, but without knowing what info is missing or what folks are looking for, it is too time consuming to sort thru them all. Don't shoot me, just a suggestion.
I AM researching Hutchins & Bottoms in Scott County. Any one Researching Hutchins, Bottoms, Yates, Johnston, Bailey, Reed in Scott County I would love to exchange Info Please E-mail me at E1Bailey@aol.com Lewis E Bailey.

They were living in Coal Township, Scott Co in 1920 at which time they had two daughters one named Liddie P. On 1910 Census, Coal Township, there are two children Lillie Glass age 5 and Dan/Don Glass age 9 living with their uncle Sherman Forest/Forrest. Who were their parents? Any info/clues would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Penny PENNYPEACE@prodigy.net

I am sorry if I offended anyone by asking you to put your surname on the subject line instead of Roll Call. I in no way would every want to offend anyone on this list, I am sorry if you took it the wrong way, and some of you certainly did. I was only trying to make it easier for EVERYONE to scan the subject lines for a particular surname, and I thought that was the way the listowner had requested us to do. Anyway, please accept my apology, there was intention to be rude to anyone. I think an awful lot of all of you! -- MZ
