--WebTV-Mail-1711309868-9024 Content-Type: Text/Plain; Charset=US-ASCII Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7Bit Hi Georgia, I just recently learned of the Scott Co. mailing list and put myself on it. I usually scan through the postings quickly, but was excited when I saw you are researching the DICKERSON family. I am, too, with little result. I will share with you what I have and hope that we can "connect up". My great-grandmother, Mary Elizabeth DICKERSON TAYLOR, was born 02/11/1861 and died 09/22/1922. She is buried in Carolan Cemetery (Logan Co.) next to her husband, Berry TAYLOR. Her father was Matt Dickerson. I have no vital records on him. I just know that he is buried in the DICKERSON cemetery 10 mi. S of Booneville and his is the only marked grave. However, the marker contains only his name. Mary Elizabeth DICKERSON's mother was Vernella GARDENHIRE. I have only the names of Vernella's parents and siblings. I would love to hear from you. I also have the snail mail address of Mr. DICKERSON in Wash. state who has worked on the "family tree" in Scott Co. I hope to hear from you to know if this is any help or not. Sincerely, Carol Taylor Vela PS: How can I find out the ARSCOTT-L mailing list rules, please? --WebTV-Mail-1711309868-9024 Content-Disposition: Inline Content-Type: Message/RFC822 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7Bit Received: from mailsorter-101-1.iap.bryant.webtv.net (209.240.198.97) by postoffice-613.iap.bryant.webtv.net; Sun, 13 Jun 1999 11:22:09 -0700 (PDT) Return-Path: <ARSCOTT-L-request@rootsweb.com> Received: from bl-14.rootsweb.com (bl-14.rootsweb.com [204.212.38.30]) by mailsorter-101-1.iap.bryant.webtv.net (8.8.8/ms.graham.14Aug97) with ESMTP id LAA18467; Sun, 13 Jun 1999 11:22:08 -0700 (PDT) Received: (from slist@localhost) by bl-14.rootsweb.com (8.9.3/8.9.3) id LAA11945; Sun, 13 Jun 1999 11:20:45 -0700 (PDT) Resent-Date: Sun, 13 Jun 1999 11:20:45 -0700 (PDT) From: GeorgiaArt@aol.com Message-ID: <c8c395fa.24955018@aol.com> Date: Sun, 13 Jun 1999 14:19:04 EDT Subject: My surnames in Scott Co Old-To: ARSCOTT-L@rootsweb.com MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-Mailer: AOL 4.0 for Windows 95 sub 13 Resent-Message-ID: <ckJ5t.A.R5C.8Z_Y3@bl-14.rootsweb.com> To: ARSCOTT-L@rootsweb.com Resent-From: ARSCOTT-L@rootsweb.com X-Mailing-List: <ARSCOTT-L@rootsweb.com> archive/latest/876 X-Loop: ARSCOTT-L@rootsweb.com Precedence: list Resent-Sender: ARSCOTT-L-request@rootsweb.com Hi everyone, Here are my surnames for Scott Co. Bryce, and all of Scott Co. HELP Great to hear from a Hunt researcher. It made me look at my record in the gen. program I have now. When I went from PAF to Family treemaker it transferred every thing but a lot of the parents didn't hook up to their children.Sad face. This is what happened to my Hunt Line which I hadn't proven completely. Soooo William Roland Brothers 1834Al-1868 AR, (son of Caleb) married Mary J. Hunt b 1835 Orange co. IN. d. 11 Jan 1900 Scott Co. Ar.....OK so far their children are listed. but when I push Parents of Mary J. Hunt they aren't there but there is a list of siblings: James b/ 1842,Harrison b. 1842, My Mary, Wilson b. 1844, Sarah b 1850, William b ca 1836, Robert b. ca 1829, John b. 1847, Parthena b 1852, Susan b. ca 1832, Lowen b. ca1827, and Wiseman b. ca 1939. Now if anyone can hook me up with a set of Parents for the above tassle of children, give me corrections as to whether or not these are her siblings or and further info I would greatly appreciate it. Have much info on several families in Scott co. will share with all. Though some needs proving. Bryce.... The above is on my husbands fathers side. Now for Julia Alliebam Brothers who married William Asberry Self. At first I had her as 2 different people Julia A, and Allie, but md to same person but spelled different one was Wm A Self and the other was William Self so the computer didn't pick it up. I do thank those who caught my mistake and helped me correct it. ANY OF THOSE WHO HAVE MY PRINT OUT OF CALEB BROTHERS FAMILY should correct it. Anyway Julia Alliebam is the daughter of Isaiah Brothers 1852 AR-1932 AR (Son of Daniel Terrill and julia D. Brothers...grandson of Caleb Brothers) This is my husbands Mothers line, they both descend from Caleb. Julia's sister Visa Ann Brothers was my mother-in-laws grandmother. I have much on the Brothers family but would like to add anyone elses line to it. Don't have anything much on the Self's. I will share willingly as others know. Hi I am researching the JOHN and SARAH E. MCCLAIN family found in the 1870, 1880 and 1900 census of Scott County. . John McClain evidently died before 1878, as his widow married a Mr. JENKINS and had one child, ELIZA JENKINS in 1878. Either Mr. Jenkins died or he and Sarah E. were divorced as Sarah is found in the 1880 census of Scott County with her children as Sarah McClain. Evidently Mrs McClain moved to Logan County where she married B.F. BAILEY on March 11, 1891. By 1900 Mrs McClain was back in Scott County living next to her son and daughter-in-law, WILLIAM J. and CANZADA (VAIGHN) MCCLAIN in James Township. With her was her daughter, ELIZA JENKINS THRESHER and a granddaughter, ARDISTA THRESHER. None of these families are found in Scott County in 1910 or 1920. Did they go back to Logan County? Did they move away from the state? What happened to these families? Below is an outline of what I know about these families. Does anyone out there know of these families? I would appreciate any information or clues about them. Thanks so much Charlene Holland 1 John MCCLAIN Born: about 1847 in Texas Died: in may have died between 1870 and 1880 .. +SARAH E.. Had a great time at the HUNT reunion. The reunion was the remaining sons and daughters of the original 16 offspring on Thomas Columbus HUNT b.1869 . "TC" or "Lum" HUNT is the son of Jonathan HUNT b.1842. Jonathan HUNT is one of the sons of Wilson HUNT. We know that we are related to most of the HUNTs in Dutch Creek and would like for them to check in especially if they can add to the Jonathan HUNT folklore. My grandfather was Omer BRAND son of TC's sister Sarah I. HUNT b 1873 and George W. HUNT. Sarah and her sister Lillian were both married to a JJ Kimbro. If you have any info please pass it along. Does any one know how to find a book written by Samuel LEMING from Scott co Ar on the LEMING family, and how much it is?? thanks, sandy
Sandy, I don't have access to Wills and Probates for Scott County, but I did find how and when SAMUEL LEMING died. >From my book of "Yell County, Arkansas Newspaper Abstracts, 1875-1879" I show this article: Independent Arkansian Dardanelle, Arkansas August 11, 1879 ANOTHER TRAGEDY AT WALDRON Another killing scrape occurred at Waldron on Saturday evening of last week to blast the fair reputation of Scott County. We give the particulars in brief as we obtained them from a reliable source. W. B Malone shipped his wife, locked her up and went to his place of business for his pistol. His wife broke out and appealed for aid to keep her husband from killing her. SAMUEL LEMING, Sheriff of the County, followed him to his house to arrest him, when Malone shot and mortally wounded him and then attempted to make his escape. Leming called for aid to keep Malone from getting away. Malone was pursued and refusing to surrender was shot in the back, just below he right shoulder, near the backbone and the ball was cut out above the right nipple. Leming was shot in the bowels and died on Monday. (the date of the paper is Friday) Malone was alive at last accounts. This same Malone appears to be an old hand in the wife shipping and murder business. He killed his father-in-law because the old man objected to the brutal husband beating his daughter, and why he has been permitted to keep up the business and add victim to victim we cannot tell. Pg. 2, Col. 2 (Can't tell you WHAT wife SHIPPING is!.....smile) Faye in Tx. Charlene, I read your message just before leaving for the Butler Center in the Little Rock Library this morning. While checking for Callahan marriages in Scott County, the name Chapell jumped out. I read further and this is what I found: G W Chapell, age 18 married Hulda Bayrd, age 17 on 22 Jul 1894 in Scott Co. The original record is in record book B, page 214. No other information was listed. The book in which I found the info was "Marriages of Scott County AR", 1882-1943, marriage books a, b, c, d, e, f, g. Compiled by Wanda M Newberry Gray, Published by Historian 425 East Sixth St, Route One, Box 6413, Waldron AR 72958. I hope this helps. Georgia Aeverman
Hi Can anyone help me with this woman? Huldah J. Bayrd, a boarder in the 1900 Scott County James Township census of Rollie Ennis, was born about 1879 in or May 1874 in Scott County, Arkansas probably. She was first found in the 1880 Scott County Census of Blancett Twp #5/5, with her last name spelled Beard. She was the daughter of Samuel Bayrd/Beard/Beyard and Elizabeth "Betty" Barley. According to a Beyard descendant, Hulda married a G.W. Chapell. Who was G.W. Chapell, and when did they marry? What happened to them? Charlene Holland
Could some lookup in will book or probates and see if there is any for LEMING, Dr.Elijah,Moses N, William,James H,Samuel.? thanks to any one who can help me. sandy
Hello Delaine, Guess it may pay to reread items. Looking back at a copy of some pages from an Index to the Tract Books for Searcy County (don't worry I will connect down a little further to Scott County....smile...), I noticed an entry for William A. Hughlis in 1867; Sec 33; Twp 16; Rge 14. This may very well be my William Allen Hollis which I am still looking for between 1850 where he is in Stoddard County, Missouri and 1870 where he is in Scott County, Arkansas. Tomorrow I will go to the library and see what I can find by that spelling. In the same tract book I see the House surname as well. Richard Hollis Tomball, Texas

Researching these surnames, thought to have been in Scott Co. from 1840 to about 1900.
My name is Jim McCubbin. I live in Bakersfield, CA. My grandfather's name was George Edmond McCubbin and he was born in Scott County AR in the early 1900s. His fahter's name was Thomas McCubbin. I have located Thomas on the 1900 census for Scott County. I know my grandfather had brothers and sisters. If you related to this line of McCubbins please email me with your information. Also, I am pretty sure that my great great grandfather's name was Wallace McCubbin. Thank You, Jim McCubbin. _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
