Charlene... Speaking of Census Records have you seen the site below on census records? Quite interesting. Take a look at this article on Census, It could change alot of our estimating ages. I was surfing the other night, and found this article on "Census Day." Thought it was rather interesting, & others might also. > http://www.genealogybulletin.com/HTML/current.html Later Glenda ----- Original Message ----- From: Charlene Holland <char@presys.com> To: <ARSCOTT-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, February 20, 2000 1:31 PM Subject: Census records > I read an interesting article on census records. > > Between 1790-1820 three copies of the census were made, all by hand > In 1830 and 1840 two copies were made, again all by hand > Between 1850-1880 three copies of the census was made, all by hand > Between 1890-1920 one copy was made and as most of us know, most of the > 1890 census was destroyed by fire. > > Is it any wonder that mistakes were made, names misspelled, or even just > initials used! I read an interesting article on census records. Between 1790-1820 three copies of the census were made, all by hand In 1830 and 1840 two copies were made, again all by hand Between 1850-1880 three copies of the census was made, all by hand Between 1890-1920 one copy was made and as most of us know, most of the 1890 census was destroyed by fire. Is it any wonder that mistakes were made, names misspelled, or even just initials used! I can't imagine having to copy all those records by hand, can you? Charlene

I tried to send a posting for Tom Johnston 1790+ in various states and counties he or his family has lived in from 1790-1886. I sent to 30 counties and all but 9 were rejected. When I called my carrier(AOL) they told me this is a new policy. Aparently this is what they have to do to prevent spammers from being as effective. They checked and verified my account and the past usage,to be sure I had no complaints of spamming. Since I had a clean record they allowed me to modify the amount of mail I send now, however I have to wait 24 hrs before I begin. When I send mail,I or anyone who sends more than 9 emails at once, has to place a disclaimer at the bottom of each. Well I dont know if theres a better way to curtail spammers, but its irritating that it has to restrict me. If there is no better way, then fine, its better than having to put up with spammers. The thing is..dont access sites that spammers hang out. Some areas are obvious, but there may be some that arent. I dont know. Ive never been spammed, except once when I went into a chat room. I never did that again. It was like walking into a bee nest or field of mosquitos.I havent been spammed for 2 years since Ive stayed out of certain sites that raised the liklihood of it. Well I guess I can get used to either disclaiming or just doing 9 at a time. I told them the county sites I write to for genealogy monitor this stuff, but It didnt matter to AOL.

Dear Scott Co Arkansas Researchers: Could any one help with locating info on the following family? I've hit a brick wall. Nathan Green Forrest/Nathaniel Green Forrest/Green Forest/Forrest was in Scott Co in 1900 according to the census. He was in Johnson Co in 1880. He was born in Ozark Co Mo circa 1844-1850 and was married three times: Matilda Barnett VanMeter, Sarah Washburn and Manerva Miller. The combined children were: GD born 1871 (name may have been Green); WJ born 1873; SE (female) born 1875; Eliza A born 1878; Henry R born 1880; Samuel 1883; Sherman born 1891; Lula P born 1894. There may have been other children such as a "Lindy". It's rumored that two of his children Lindy and Green moved to Oklahoma. Nathan/Green was the son of Jamwes Forrest and Aurilla Freelove Dutcher Forrest of Ozark Co Mo. Any help/clues/leads/guesses would greatly appreciated. Penny Peace PENNYPEACE@prodigy.net

Hi all! Still looking for information about the parents of my great grandfather, William Preston Morrow (descendant outline below). His parents were supposedly both born in Indiana, although family stories say they may have been born in Ireland. W.P. may have had at least one brother, name unknown who had a son Ike Morrow who was born December 1886 in Arkansas and probably died in Oklahoma. Ike married Winnie M. Pitts July 10, 1910 in Scott County Arkansas. She was born March 1891 in Arkansas and probably also died in Oklahoma. Her parents were: Joseph W. "Billy" Pitts and Nancy M. Cain. William Preston Morrow may also have had at least one sister, Nancy A. Morrow who was born January 16, 1864? in Indiana and died May 23, 1927? [not sure of these dates] in Scott County, Arkansas, buried at Blackfork Cemetery. [not sure this is correct.] Nancy married James W. Jones, Jr. about 1881 in Scott County Arkansas. He was the brother of Melvina Jones who married William Preston Morrow. James was born March 1864 in Scott County, Arkansas and died after 1920. His parents were James W. (William?) I received an email yesterday from an individual that is writing a book on a "Sarber"from the areas we're discussing. I inadvertantly deleted his message, but his email is mihodges@ualr.edu The reply I gave him is at the bottom of this paragraph. Apparently they were in politics.Like who isnt if theyre rich etc. John at lrjwj@aol,com Palm Springs Sarbers name was associated with TK May a prominient Store owner. The May Co. I'm told is of this origin. My ggrandpa O.C Ludwig was an editor and owner of several area newspapers and married into the May family abt. 1885. This marriage was set up for political reasons and financial advantages as intended by TK May. O.C Ludwig became State Post Master, then by 1888 became chief clerk to the US Senate followed by 3 terms as Secretary of State of Ark. The papers I have just mentions Sarber as a "Cronie" of sorts of the Mays and Ludwigs. John
If some one has a 1910 Arkansas census,Please look for Mark Shelton family in WeeksScott,Arkansas.Thank you Juanita
I'd like to throw this out to any mays or related persons. If you see anything recognizable let me know. The Mays of my line have been in the country since the 1630s I understand. I'm in the sporatic process of working my way back. Currently,as can be seen below,I"m in the 1830-1915 period. Ive just started recently working from the Ludwig line and intercepted the May line at abt 1885 when O.C.Ludwig Married Eliz.Emmiline May. From here Im not having much luck with the Ludwig line before about 1850. Although the May line appears more promising as there are what appear to be "billions of them" My Mays left Tn.Dickerson Co. in 1833 for Ark.Knoxville ,Johnson Co.by 1834 . They entered land ownership/farming in the general areas of and surrounding Johnson Co. TK and some brothers began a merchantile business abt 1855 in Clarksville and got disgustingly rich from it. Some names associated with the family are: AJ and IS Swaggerty, Vaughn , Varnell,Cunningham,Burns, Simpson, Pennington . McConnell , Sarber, Neughet , Root,Van Buren,Adams,McKinnons,Taylor,Brown Generally this is accurate:Not necessarily in order of birth and some offspring missing Tom King May b.1793 d.1863 (Founder of May Stores) TK b.1829 d1910 Mary Belle (Swaggerty) Wm Ada(moved to Calif.San Diego and LA) Alfred P (my branch)* Tom Minnie Ruth Eliz.E. I have lots more, but tried to mention only the things that might stand out for those with only bits and pieces of info. I still have lots of info to sort through. If there are delays in response to any email, dont feel rejected,I work out of town sporatically and from 2 dys to a week at a time. John Johnston Palm Springs Ca.

Juanita, Do people post look ups to you directly on the list? If so, I am looking for any of my Jameson relatives. I would dearly love to find Clay Jameson (other sp. Jimmerson, Jamerson, Jimison, Jamison). He died about 1867 and lived in Hickman Twp. Wouldn't know what the oldest cemeteries around there are. Others in that family include: Louella "Lucy" Jimmerson Smith m. Reuben Smith, Malinda "Linda" Jimmerson Hall (d. about 1932) m. John Hall, Mary A. Jimmerson Evatt (Clay's wife who remarried to Jesse Evatt, 1869), Robert G. Jameson (Jimmerson) (Clay's son) d. about 1890. The other two are his daughters that I know stayed around the area, perhaps they were buried near Waldron? Thanks so much for your time.
