I found your post on the bulletin board at Ancestry.com. I'm thankful that you posted and that you are available as a contact person in Faulkner Co. My great grandfather was John Henry Roland who was born in 1863. A note from his daughter-in-law, Alice, tells me the following. I posted it earlier this morning to the Pence Funeral Home Thread. Here is the information that I posted there. "I found your message on the bulletin board at Ancestry.com that you would be willing to look in your books Pence Funeral Home Conway 1881-1926 for names. I am looking for John Henry Roland who died after 1910 in Faulkner Co. He was my great grandfather. His sister-in-law, wife to William B. Rolland, sent me information about his death. She said, "John Henry Rolland was born in 1863 in Arkansas and his wife, the former EmmaAikins, was born in 1864 in Tennessee." "John and Emma were married in Faulkner County Arkansas on October 5, 1884. To their union was born eight children. They were: Bessie, Samuel, Laura, William, Bengaham, Pearl, Floyd and Mancel." Bengaham died when he was just a small child from eating poisonous wild berries. John Henry, Bessie, and Sam died during the flu epidemic of 1911, within a six week period of time. BessieRolland Gibb's infant child also died, at this time." Thank you for any help or information that you can find in the death records from the PenceFuneral Home Conway 1881-1926. It will be so helpful to me if you find their names and dates of their deaths. " I would really love to communicate with you regarding the Roland Family. I found Prudence Cobb Langley's tombstone in the Oakland Cemetary. She was Emeline Cobb Rowland/Roland/Rolen's mother. I would would like to come to Faulkner Co. and be able to visit the area that you tell about in your post on the bulletin board. >From all of my research, I believe that John Henry Roland was the son of Jeremiah Rowland. His birthdate was in July, 1863, according to the age and date given on his marriage documents. The dates on the census for his age are all different, so, it is hard to go by them as being reliable. Jeremiah's Civil War Records say that he was on the muster roll of the 11 and 17th Consol'd Arkansas Infantry, Confederate, for Dec. 31, 1862 to April 30, 1863, dated Aug. 17, 1863. He enlisted Jan. 1, 1863 at Benton, Ark. by Col. Vance. He died at Port Hudson March 8, 1863. I have a copy of the Probate Record of Saline Co. for the estate of Jeremiah Roland, which lists Emaline Roland widow of Jeremiah Roland, deceased, and Leannah Susan Roland, Willliam Buckhannon Rolland, James Layfayett and Jeff Davis Rolland children of Said deceased all residing in Saline County, Arkansas. John Henry is not named in this probate record because he is not yet been born. Emaline would have been five months pregnant with him since he was born later in July of that year 1863. Since Jeremiah did not join the Consal'd Arkansas Infantry until Dec 31, 1862, he was home and that is when John Henry was conceived. There are now DNA test that can be taken by male descendants in a family. We know that your William B. Roland was mentioned in the probate records of Jeremiah Roland, so any male descendants of his would qualify. I know male descendants of John H. Roland that I could get the DNA sample from to have it compared to known male descendants of Jeremiah Roland/Rowland. This would be one way of proving, for me, of my great grandfather being a descendant of Jeremiah Roland. So, if you can help me in that area it would be great. Any information that you can share with me about the Roland family that you are descended from will be very helpful to me as they are siblings of John Henry Roland. I am including a photo of John Henry Roland that was taken just before his death. I identified the date of the photo postcard from the stamp markings on the back of it as being taken 1910-later 1930. If anyone is interested I will share the photo with you. I would love to see photos of the Roland/Rowland/Rolland/Rolen family. In the book Oakland United Methodist Church of Holland, Faulkner County, Arkansas, Jeremiah's widow is written as Emaline Rolen. It says she was transferred to Union Valley Church. Would anyone know where this church is located or know of any records of it. I know there are lots of questions in this post. Hope it isn't to confusing.
