I had every item in that folder photocopied and I have them in my possesion. It has been a while since I have read them, but, will go back and read them. I only found Probate Records for Jeremiah Rowland/Roland. It is confusing as his name is written as Jeremiah E., Jeremiah M., and Jeremiah, all in the same folder of records. It took several years for the Probate to be settled as the Administrator of it, Joel Whitten, "up and went to Texas". That is what Emeline said in her application to be Administrator of the Probate for Jeremiah Roland. She was later appointed Administrator, but, the original document that Joel Whitten wrote listing the surviving children was made soon after Jeremiah's death on March 8, 1863 and a new one was not made listing his heirs, other than the one that Joel Whitten had made. John Henry Roland is not listed in the probate record of Jeremiah's heirs, however, since he was born in July, 1863, which would have been five months after Jeremiah's death, I believe that he is Jeremiah's son. Jeremiah's military record states that he joined the Co. A, 11 and 17 Consol'd Arkansas Infantry (Griffith's Consoliated Ark., Inf) for Dec 31, 1862 to April 30, 1863 dated Aug 17, 1863. When: Jan 1, 1863. Where: Benton, Ark., By Whom: Col. Vance, Period: War The remarks on the record: Died at Port Hudson Mch 8, 1863. >From these dates, it tells me that Jeremiah was in Benton, Arkansas, Saline Co., until after Jan. 1, 1863. If anyone wants the card number it is: 50446398 I have visited the Memorial Park for the Port Hudson Civil War Battle. I think Jeremiah was in the Calvary. I don't remember why I think that, but, read the events and circumstances of his death, besides talking with a Park Ranger. I hope someday to have the DNA test made to prove or disprove that John Henry Roland is the son of Jeremiah Rowland/Roland. Emeline named her children after famous people. Thanks for your post and for the links. You help me to think. I will review them and all my records. One of my purposes of posting here, besides learning new information and insights in research, is to connect with distant cousins and others who have a connection with Jeremiah and Emeline Cobb Rowland/Roland.
