Bakers's _From Memdag to Norsk: A Historical Directory of Arkansas Post Offices, 1832-1971_ (Hot Springs: Arkansas Genealogical Society, 1988). On page 203, it lists three Silver Cities. But the one that looks most likely, based on a route from Saline to Scott Counties, is Silver City/Silver in Montgomery County. The legal description of its location is Section 20, Township 2 South, Range 23 West. It was discontinued in 1953 and the mail then went to Mt. Ida. The book further explains that it was originally named "Love" and became a post office in 1873, but the name was changed to Silver City in 1879. These dates are a little later than what you're looking for--on the other hand, many post office names came from names already used in the community, so perhaps there was a small community called Silver City there before it became an official post office. There is also the possibility that, although it was not called Silver City at the time your GGG Grandfather died there, relatives later referred to the location by the name it had when they were talking about it. Silver City, Arkansas, is also listed in _Post Offices in the United States, 1884_ by Dopn SImmons (Melber, KY: Simmons Historical Publications, 1987), p. 9. The only information, however, is that it was in Montgomery County. There is no other Silver City listed for Arkansas although there is a Silver Hill in Sevier County. Carolyn
