    1. Traskwood and Fair Play town historians

    3. Hi all, I'm interested in finding the person who would be the town historian for Traskwood and Fair Play, in Saline County. Is there such a person now in these towns or areas? My surname is FENTER, my g grandfather was James "Henry" FENTER. He lived in Traskwood and had three children. On the 1880 Arkansas Census, it listed James FENTER, 2 daughters Safrona (6) and Tina (4) and places of birth were all Arkansas. The wife is not listed, James is a widower. (I believe the wife's name to be Emily, and someone suggested her maiden name to be Dowdy, but my grandfather's SS card application says it was EDGERTON.) On a different day, the same 1880 census, these two girls and their brother Henry Walter FENTER, were also enumerated with the TANNER family of Fair Play. They were listed as nieces and nephew, but place of birth of the TANNERS was Georgia and the census taker wrote down Georgia as place of birth for the children. I understand there was a very active church in Fair Play about 1880 and a good school system in Traskwood. My g grandfather and the children probably used both of these facilities during that time. I have a copy of "Goodspeed Biographical and Historical Memoirs of Central Arkansas" which has Saline County in it. I have had contact with the FENTER Association in Benton/Malvern, and have written to both the genealogical societies in Saline County and Hot Spring County and have received some good information from both, but haven't been able to establish a connection of my James to their information about the Christian FENTER family descendents. Is there a historian for Traskwood and or Fair Play? Thank you for your help. Jan FENTER Portland, Oregon [email protected]
