In his definitive "From Memdag to Norsk: A Historical Directory of Arkansas Post Offices, 1832-1971") {AGS, Hot Springs, 1988. p. 28}, and again in a 1990 article in "The Saline", Russel Baker incorrectly places the vanished hamlet of Brazil, Arkansas, in S31 T2N R16W, the location of present day Paron. Brazil was in fact in S5 T1N R16W, about 1 1/2 miles southeast of Paron. MOSES BRAZIL (1803-1872), founder and first postmaster of Brazil, patented land in S5 by preemption in 1835. Baker himself implies different locations for Brazil and Paron in his directory: "BRAZIL, postoffice in Saline County from 1853-1924....When discontinued MAIL SENT TO PARON".Brazil's site can still be accessed from the first logging road south of Paron on State Highway 9. The road turns off by an old Pentecostal Church as shown on the AHTD's 1936 map {http://www.ahtd.state.ar.us/maps.htm}. Special thanks again to the two fellow researchers who supplied the Baker references. Carey
