    3. This is the old Thomas house. William Thomas and family moved here from NY via Illinois in the 1880s, I believe, and owned a great deal of land in this area. He worked as a consultant for the RR. The place was called Midland Farms and was a showplace of agricultural practices. A few years ago, the old barn was blown up as part of a movie scene. The land has been divided between heirs. Most recently, LR attorney Thorp Thomas owned the house and surrounding land, but sold it all to developers last year. The house will surely be demolished. It was indeed a showplace for many decades, but has now been stripped of its marble fireplaces and fancy trims, its antiques and original furnishings. The mobile home park next door is owned by another Thomas family descendant. His name is Lee Pengelly and he lives in a house at the back of the park. I've done a lot of family history on this family (they're not related to me), but it was many years ago and the details don't come to mind as quickly as they used to!
