However, Letty is not with Thomas in the 1870 census, implying that she has already died by then. In the index to the 1870 Mortality Census (Ancestry.com) for Saline County, Arkansas is: Littie Simeon 46 born Alabama died Dec 1869 of consumption I believe that there is a misinterpretation of the handwriting and this is actually Lettie Simcox - the age and birthplace are right.
