    3. Yes, cotton was raised here. My great grand father raised some. Use to be Bragg's building, where the Benton City Hall is now located and they bailed the cotton. I have another picture that I will attach here. My mother had the Sims pictures and this one is of a couple. Mother always put names and dates on the back of those she knew about, but this one just says the aunt and uncle who raised Della after her parents died. I would love to be able to put names with them. If anyone has any clue, please let me know. Thanks very much! Author: FrancesRussell67 Surnames: Martin, Fowler, Sims Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.arkansas.counties.saline/1549/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Looking for more information on the children of John and Ollie Martin: Emma, Mary E, Alonzo, George, John W, William P, Minnie, Ardella. Some were born in Georgia, Some in Calhoun Alabama, and the three youngest which includes my grandmother Frances Rodella, were born in Saline County, Arkansas. I have found them on census records including Saline County, Arkansas. I have found information on Laura Sarah and James Sanford who are their children, as well as my grandmother Frances Rodella who was married to a Robert Martin and had two children. I have never found him on any census, but I did find the record of their marriage in Alabama. She married my Grandfather, Jasper Hudson Sims, in Hot Springs, Arkansas. They moved to Mena, Polk County, Arkansas, after 1899, where they lived until their deaths. I would be most grateful to hear from anyone who has any information on any of these Martin children. Also would be most grateful if anyone has any pictures of any of these people. I understand that John and Ollie are buried in Scott Cemetery in Saline county. I would be grateful to have pictures of their graves or any other photos of the family. I have photos of my grandmother Della Martin Sims and her children, that I would be happy to share. One request is that you please send any photos to my email address from your email address. I have found that Ancestry strips any photo attachments from messages sent through their connection service. If no one contacts you, try the Butler Center in Little Rock. If per chance you are interested in a researcher, I can suggest a good one. (All I can think is that poor family. It is possible that someone in the bunch was a typhoid carrier. I strongly suspect that is what happened to some of my relatives.) Has any one mentioned to you that there was a large Catholic population in the Little Rock/Pulaski County area? You may wish to check around in Pulaski County as the counties are neighbors. I am fairly sure that their cemeteries are on line. Good luck with your search. Linda Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: MarcRafferty36 Surnames: Rafferty Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.arkansas.counties.saline/1547/mb.ashx Message Board Post: The following excerpt is from the Grayson Gazette published October 27, 1899 in Leitchfield, Grayson, Kentucky: "Mrs. C. A. Alvey and children and Laurence Rafferty and wife left last Tuesday night for Benton, Ark., where Mr. Alvey has located." He and his family appear on the 1900 census living in Galla Rock, Yell, Arkansas. However, after a couple of trips to that area and multiple inquiries, I have come up empty. Lawrence Rafferty was my 2nd great grandfather. He and five of his children died in Arkansas between 1900-1905, and I have never been able to locate their grave site. The newspaper above is one of a few clues that has provided me with a possible location. It is highly likely they are buried in a Catholic cemetery. I am hoping that someone in Saline County with access to cemetery transcriptions, Catholic cemeteries in particular, would be willing to search for the following names (all Rafferty's): Lawrence, Bernard, Thomas, Mary, Charles, and Catherine. They apparently died of acute illness within a short period of one another. Any history of an epidemic during that time would also be of interest. I appreciate your help. William Milton Scott and his wife Anna came to Saline County in 1833 from St. Clair County, Alabama. William Milton Scott was born in South Carolina. He and Anna had eleven children according to GOODSPEED. Seven were living at the time of the Goodspeed article. Another family source (Lucille Brown Ziegler) lists these seven children as: Robert Jackson Scott, Joseph Scott, Winfrey Scott, Patrick Scott, Mary (wife of Thomas Pack), Margaret (wife of Joseph Dodd), and Lovey (wife of Reece Harris). I would like to find out who they are because I think they must be very close kin to mine, as Winfrey is such an unusual name. Can you help me get in touch with anyone from this family line? Also, one historical document I read said their father, William Scott, came to AR from TN, so maybe they have some TN roots too.
