Author: Annedixb Surnames: Keesee and Montgomery Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.arkansas.counties.saline/3.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I found your reply to the search for George Murphy in which you mentioned your family was the Keesee family of Saline County, AR. Do you have any information on a George W. Keesee who married Nancy Montgomery on 21 Sep 1848 in Saline County, AR. They lived in Saline District, Saline County in 1850 and had one daughter, Elizabeth at this time. According to the probate record of the estate of Nancy's father, Thomas Montgomery, they lived in Jefferson County, AR in December of 1858. I can find no further record of them. Do you know of this family? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. You probably have your answer by now, since your query was 1999, but just in case, I can supply the following information: There is a photograph of George West Murphy's grown children in a book written by genealogist Carolyn Earle Billingsley, published University of Georgia Press in 2003. Your library might be able to do an interlibrary loan, or else the Univ of GA still has copies--or did when I ordered my copy from them about a year ago. The book is about the Keesees. My branch of the Keesees settled in Saline and Grant counties, AR. I think Clardy's mother was Agnes Keesee, but am writing from memory so not certain. Google search also turns up references to the GWM-grown children photograph, so Billingsley's book would not be the only source for this. 1. [ARSALINE] John Gentrs in Arkansas
    2. TOM GENTRY
    3. Fred, Thank you for the probate information. That may be a big help and is certainly on my list of things to do when in Malvern next trip. Don't suppose you just happen to have a photo copy of page 408? :-) One note about John and Priscilla. The John Gentry who married Priscilla was born in TN. He moved to Carroll County Arkansas and is present there with wife Priscilla in 1860. The John Gentry I am researching was born in GA and is a well documented son of Tyree Gentry of SC, GA, TN and AR. His second wife was Eliza Lowrance a widow with children who is found with John in the 1850 Census. And as you say he married Delilah in Saline county and apparently died there or in Hot Spring County in about 1864/1865. Unfortunately we do not have a clue as to who John Married first but we think it was someone from the families that all came to Arkansas about 1817 from Stewart County TN. If I were to guess I would think that Permillia might have been her name but I cannot prove it. Thanks for taking the time to pass along this very useful information. I will let you know what I find. Tom Message: 1 Date: Mon, 2 Mar 2009 10:48:58 -0600 From: Fred Groth <LTC519@satx.rr.com> Subject: Re: [ARSALINE] ARSALINE Digest, Vol 4, Issue 16 To: arsaline@rootsweb.com Message-ID: <D84553B6-7C8C-4459-8A2E-A59DB289E640@satx.rr.com> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=WINDOWS-1252; delsp=yes; format=flowed I used to track the Gentrys a bit some years ago, but found them to be too far afield from my specific line of interest, the Warfords. I do have some notes on John Gentry that may be of use to you: His first wife was Priscilla Graham, md 1 Oct 1812, Jefferson Cy, TN (Jefferson Cy Clerk records) He appears to have a second wife, Eliza. (1850 census, Hot Spring Cy). And then there is his third wife as you stated, Delilah Taylor. I?d say the reason John disappeared after his marriage is that he died. His son, Samuel F Gentry, was appointed administrator of his estate in Hot Spring Cy. 9 April 1866, HS Cy Probate Book E, pg 408. Also recorded in Saline Cy Probate Books. I have a note with no sourcing that John died in 1864. Fred Groth San Antonio, TX

    3. I suggest the Saline County History and Heritage Society Archives, right near the corner of downtown Benton that's right across from the courthouse, especially if your McCools were the Saline and Grant County bunch. The volunteers are usually there until 2-2:30. Many of the old court records are there. And friendly people to help you! The Saline County Library in Benton also has an excellent genealogy section, particularly for Saline County and Arkansas. Steve Perdue is the director and is very knowledgeable and helpful. Also, of course, the Arkansas History Commission (state archives) at One Capitol Mall, next door to state capital building in Little Rock. Most of Arkansas's old records on microfilm, newspapers, maps, etc. Google their web site. Open 8-4:30 six days a week. Good luck.
