My grandmother, Zenobia Morgan, is buried next to my grandfather, Wilson Morgan, in the McPherson-Sardis Cemetery in Saline County, but she is not listed on any of the records, even though he is. J.P. Morgan's post mentioning the Sims Family marrying into the Rowland Family has jarred my memory. Several years ago when I first started my research I found the Harris Rowland, Amos Rowland and Thomas Rowland in Saline Co., I thought there might be a connection to my Jeremiah Rowland that I was researching to these Rowlands. So, I wrote Marilyn Rowan who is a descendant of these Rowlands who I think are brothers. Amos married Mary "Polly" Sims. Marilyn wrote back and told me there was no connection of my Jeremiah Rowland to her Rowland line, so I abandoned my research in that area. I still have those notes and I will review them. It is curious that Emeline has a child that has the surname of Sims living with her and lists him as her son after her husband Jeremiah has been killed in the war. I think this calls for more research in the Rowland Family that married into the Sims Family. There may be a connection and a lost link. What do you think? But, when I have time, I will go back further and see if Thomas, or any other Rowland in my family, and Jeremiah were related. If Jeremiah, or his family, came from AL to AR, like my Rowland ancestors did, then they are probably related. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. It is a real mystery. G.W. Roland wasn't born until 1870 or 1871. It would mean that his mother Emeline would have to have been involved somehow with a Sims around 1869 or so. Her husband Jeremiah was killed at Port Hudson in the Civil War. There were alot of Rowlands around Arkansas that weren't related to each other at all. None of the Rowland names you have mentioned match any that we have traced. Of course, not saying that it couldn't go back further than what we have traced. What was Thomas Rowland's middle name? Do you show anywhere that Jeremaiah Rowland could be a brother or anything related to the Rowlands you have traced? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. As for trying to make sense of piecing together families via pregnancy: I have a g.g.g.grandmother who had 6 children....all by brothers of the same family, but she never married one of them....and, a son by someone of another/different last name. She gave some the children the last name of their father and some her own last name. So, her children were siblings/cousins simultaneously!! That is why I believe that G.W. may be Emelines son by a different man, but G.W. never kept his name. I was not able to find any local Sims in that Census. Could have been a traveler or a migrant farm worker. Or perhaps she took in a child from someone? Yes Jefferson Davis Roland was George Washington Roland's brother. However, I never knew he was a reverend. G.W. did move to Kaufman Texas With his firt wife Ida Chamness and her sister and family. They all lived within a few hoses of each other. They had my Grandfather, Johnny Mansel Roland. Then Ida died and G.W. married her sister that had been living with them. Then either she died or he divorced her and then married my Great Grandmother Donahue. She had a daughter named Lillian. Johnny and Lillian(step brother and step sister)fell in love and married. They had my father Raymond. Yes I would like a copy of the obituary. Thanks, Michael My thinking was that "Sims" is an old maternal family name in the Rowland family from back in the early 1800's.
