Rowland, of Calhoun, AL; John B. Rowland, of Carroll County, AR; Mary Rowland, of Carroll County, AR; Sherwood Rowland, of Dallas County, AR; E.L. Rowland, of Bath, NC; and Martha L. Rowland, of Savannah, GA, were all slave owners. Interesting fact to find concerning our ancestors. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. However, one way or the other he did die in the civil war that was over in 1865 and my Great Grandfather G.W. was born 1870 or 1871 so Jeremiah could not have been his father. G.W. or his mother had him take the Rowland name, however, on the census records. There is only one census that has Sims on it for him. Then somehow the "W" was dropped in our name because my Grandfather(G.W.'s son) was named Roland throughout. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Stranger still . . . William G. Rowland, after divorcing Sarah Ann, remarries, to a Martha Ann, and had another son he named Henry . . . Henry Homer Rowland. So he then had two sons named Henry - Henry Franklin Rowland and Henry Homer Rowland. That had to be interesting around the home. Reminds me of George Foreman and his 5 sons named George! HA! Rowland is listed as being born in Alabama. He is 25 years old. It is confusing to me about the different initials that I find on records of Jeremiah Rowland. There is Jeremiah E. Rowland and on his Probate record he is listed as Jeremiah Roland. Then before the Civil war there was a Jeremiah M. Rowland buying land and paying taxes. The land record and description of the land is the same as in Jeremiah E. and Jeremiah Rowland that is married to Emeline Cobb Rowland/Roland. That is why I was thinking that this was the one and same Jeremiah Rowland for all three names. Russell P. Baker that works at the Arkansas History Commission compiled a lists of Saline County Commissioned Officers of the Arkansas State Militia for the time period of 1827-1862. It has for the date 03-27-1862 Rowland J.M., 3rd Lt. Co. D. in the 18th Regiment. I don't know if this is Jeremiah M. Rowland that is the same as Jeremiah E. Rowland or not. But, the initals are the same and I don't know who this J.M. Rowland of Saline County could be if it isn't him. There are more and more clues to solve this mystery. Do you guys like CSI? Then you will love Genealogy. :) Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. It could get interesting. I recall some time ago that I looked at the census that had G.W. listed as Sims and I found no Sims anywhere around where Emeline was living. I would think that people didn't travel long distances to meet people and that if Emeline met somebody named Sims and got pregnant and had a child that it would be someone local as the father or someone from the family that had the Sims name and she took them in. I know it's far fetched because I still want to believe that Emeline was G.W.'s mother. I know that jeremiah wasn't the father. However, if G.W. was a Sims, why did he abandon the name?
