Thought I'd post this to the list and see if I could find a new long-lost cousin :-) There will be a Duvall family reunion for the descendants of Rev. George Albert DuVall, SR and his wife Elizabeth Catherine Grimmett DuVall this Saturday, Oct. 24, 1998 at the Tull Community Center in Tull, AR (Grant Co.- just south of Benton) G. A. DuVall, Sr is descended through Capt. Lewis DuVall of Laurens Co., SC born circa 1750 who served in the Rev. War. Line is as follows: Lewis Duvall> Alexander Gabriel Duvall (who died in Pope Co.)> Elisha Harrison DuVall, SR> Elisha Harrison DuVall, JR> George Albert DuVall, SR who died in 1932. Please consider attending reunion if you are descended through any of the above DuValls. Activities begin at 10 AM with that time set aside for visiting and viewing of a display of antique family photos, documents, and other family keepsakes. (Please feel free to add your momentos to the display) There will be a potluck luncheon at the noon hour followed by an afternoon family history presentation 1750- present. There will also be guest speakers offering humorous family stories. (Believe me, some of them are "side-splittling" funny) If you are from this line, I'd love to hear from you. Sincerely, Tanya Brumbelow Fulcher

Saline County, Arkansas Marriage book "G" was uploaded to the Saline County Genealogy Page today. Spelling and some hand writing interpreting may be incorrect so check the original or the Microfilm copy. Marriage book "F" still needs some proofing. Hi, I live a short distance from this cemetery. Also there are books published up to middle of 1970's on Saline county Cemeteries. Also there was information on a lot of them unmarked graves and I think the church is Trinty Baptist Church 702 church St Bauxite AR 501-778-9145 I believe that was At Salem Cemetery at Bauxite. I will get you the address of that church I believe they have a sexton who keeps pretty good records. I found that Ashby funeral home didn't have many records at least pre pc's. I just called them and they have funeral records back to 1962. At The OtterCreek Family History Lib. they have a book that was from beginning up to 40's with records Mr Ashby kept like coffin size who arranged funeral and cost. Ashby Funeral Home Narraway and Main St Benton,AR 72015 Ballard Funeral Home 306 South Main St Benton,AR72015 I think the church by the cemetery is not named Salem I will be going by there about noon and will find out for sure. Will double check name as I go by. Nadine List owner On Sun, 18 Oct 1998 08:55:28 EDT, you wrote: >All, > >Thank you for all of your responses. All, Thank you for all of your responses. Yes, I am quite aware that there is an extensive list (under rootsweb/~arsaline) of people buried in Salem Cemetery. In fact, I would like more information for a couple of people on that list. What I would like is to request the records (death, burial) from the cemetery? If I should speak with someone at a church (that "owns" the cemetery), then so be it. A couple of people have suggested writing to the funeral homes and sent the addresses. Thanks much. That is very helpful. I will probably do that. Someone else mentioned that Salem Cemetery is not in Bauxite but outside of it. That's OK too. I am still wondering whether there is an overseer to the cemetery that I can write to for records. Thanks, Charles McCool
My impression is that McCool's inquiry was directed at finding someone or some institution who had *records* for this cemetery, rather than the actual tombstone listings which, I believe, he had already located. In his query, he wondered if Salem Baptist Church or Salem United Methodist Church might be the overseers of the cemetery and have records for it. Does anybody know who is currently responsible for burials at Salem Cemetery and if they have any records? If they do, maybe those records show who arranged the burial and what relationship they were to the deceased, or perhaps more information than is written on the stone. Thanks, Carolyn At 01:09 PM 10/17/98 EDT, you wrote: >In response to Charles McCool's inquiry, there is a complete listing of the >people who are buried in the Salem Cemetery, with dates reflected on the >headstones. In response to Charles McCool's inquiry, there is a complete listing of the people who are buried in the Salem Cemetery, with dates reflected on the headstones. Go to: "www.rootsweb.com/~arsaline" Look under "Cemeteries." Salem Cemetery is listed. John Hull
Hi All, I would like to write to someone that has records for burials in Salem Cemetery. Internet Yellow Page searches do not show such a place. I have found Salem Baptist Church and Salem United Methodist Church, both in Benton. Maybe the cemetery is associated with one of the churches? Someone please send the mailing address. Also, pass along any tips or suggestions for getting vital information from the Salem Cemetery records. Will they even do it? should I write to a particular person? Fees? Hi everyone, A friend of mine got an email from someone regarding three books that were printed on the FENTER or FENDER families (see below) and I am hoping someone out there can help me locate copies, or put me in touch with the authors or publishers. They were probably all privately published. As I understand, the information for #2 was compiled by both Carl E. Taliaferro Sr. and Carl E. Taliaferro Jr. and a Mr. Bill White of Benton, Arkansas had the information published after both Carl Sr. and Jr. passed away. 1. Williams, Edgar Hugh, Jr. THE FENTER FAMILY: AN AMERICAN FRONTIER EXPERIECE. 1980. 2. Taliaferro, Carl E. THE CHRISTIAN FENTER FAMILY. 3. THE FAMILY HISTORY OF THE FENDERS AND THE LANCES If you have these in a library near you, could you please find out if they are available for inter-library loan? Thank you for any help you can give me. My grandfather: Henry Walter FENTER, b: Traskwood, Saline County, Arkansas, 2 March 1879. Henry married Emma Lee HARDAGE 24 Feb. 1915 Garland County, AR. They had one child: Eugene Walter FENTER. My g grandfather: James Henry FENTER, b: Arkansas, about 1846-1847 (possibly in Hot Spring County). James married Emily about 1866-1873. (Emily may have been an Edgerton or a Daudy/Dawdy.) They had three children I know of: Safrona, Tina (Lena or Laura ?), Henry Walter. Jan Fenter [email protected]
Can anybody provide information about the MCCOOLs of Saline County? I am just beginning my family research. Long ago, my grandmother told me that my great-grandfather, Roscoe Daniel MCCOOL was born in Grant County. Today, I found a listing for Roscoe MCCOOL born in 1927 that lived in Bauxite (died 1975). Is he a son of Roscoe Daniel MCCOOL? My grandfather, Charles Mathis, was born in 1920. He would be the brother of Roscoe. Do these names ring a bell to anyone? If so (or even if not), please, please, please provide any information that would fill in some of the holes in my research... Roscoe's birthplace, parents, children, and sibling's vital info Roscoe's burial site and date. funeral home name? did he, his ancestors, or descendents attend school, enlist in any branch of service, belong to any churches or organizations in Saline County? any recommendations on other sources that I can check for such info? Are Saline County records online or available by microfilm? Does anybody know a person or people I can contact with research inquiries, such as county museum, courthouse, or historical society. Any information is greatly appreciated. Thank you very much. Hello, I am posting my FENTER surname (brick wall) here because I haven't seen anything on any current list. My great grandfather James Henry FENTER's where abouts were last known as Traskwood, Saline County, Arkansas, on the 1880 Census, and prior to that is believed to have been in Hot Spring County, Arkansas about 1850, living with the Williams family at age 4. According to family information James had a wife named Emily, but there is a question as to her maiden name (EDGERTON or DOWDY). There were 3 children, two girls listed on the 1880 Saline County Census as Safrona, 6 years old and Liva (Lena or Laura) age 4 years, and my grandfather Henry Walter age 1 and living with the Absolum M. TANNER family in Fair Play, Saline County, Arkansas. There is supposed to be a "FENTER Family Reunion" every summer, I think in June or July, in Malvern, Arkansas, and as I understand it there are more of the other surnames than the FENTER name who attend. If there are any of the FENTER Reunion people on this list would you please contact me privately. I have spoken and written to Bill WHITE, who sent me some FENTER information regarding the Christian FENTER ancestory, and as yet I am unable to connect my James to that line. Bill didn't have anything on my great grandfather James Henry FENTER. I can't find a RootsWeb List for FENTER. Any assistance would be much appreciated on this brick wall. Hi, I'm wondering if someone could look up an obituary in the Benton Courier for me. "Aunt Gene" CROWSON's obituary or death notice was in the 6/29/1922 edition of this newspaper, Page 1, Col. 5. I found this listing in the "Saline County, Arkansas Obituaries and Death Notices 1823-1930", Landreth. I'd be glad to pay copy costs and postage, or if it is just a short note, just the info e-mailed would be fine. Thanks for any help. Susan Hudspeth

Hi all, I need the name of a newspaper, and or look up in the book: "Saline County Obituaries and Death Notices, 1823-1930" by Eddie G. Landreth. Would someone please look up Traskwood, 1879-1880, for my great grandmother. I'm not sure if she died in child birth, epidemic, disease or natural disaster. Obituary or death notice for: Mrs. James H. FENTER. Her first name was Emily. I don't know her maiden name for sure. My grandfather's Social Security Registration listed Emily EDGERTON for his mother's maiden name and someone told me they thought it might be Emily DOWDY. Her husband was James Henry FENTER, born abt. 1846-1847 in AR. James is a 33 year old widower on the 1880 Census. (I believe this James to be the same one living in Saline Township, Hot Springs County, AR, with Elizabeth WILLIAMS, on the 1850 AR Census. This James may also be the same having a farm in Traskwood, Saline County at Sec 7, Twp 3S, Rng 15W, 80 acres, 1884/11/20. Emily and family lived in Traskwood, Saline County, AR. She gave birth to three children, all born in Arkansas: Safrona, born abt. 1873-1874 (6 years old on 1880 Census) Lina, born abt. 1875-1876 (4 years old on 1880 Census) or her name could also be spelled Tina, Lena, Liza or Laura. Henry Walter, born 2 March 1879 If you can't find the obit./death notice, could you please tell me what newspaper(s) were being published in the area at that time. I found a listing of the Nichols Cemetery, now located in Grant Co, but used to be in Saline County, about 4 1/2 miles North of Poyen, on highway 229. It was submitted by Harold Dean Davis to "The Saline" September 1991, Vol 6, No. 3, Pg. 122. In the listing were FENTER names that could belong to me and none of the grave markes had dates: Jim FENTER, Jimmy FENTER, Fronie FENTER, Liza FENTER, Mary FENTER, Charlie FENTER. This cemetery is listed as also having other names: Simmons Cemetery; Jim Fenter Cemetery. (This cemetery was also listed by the Hot Spring County Historical Society in their Volume IV, pg. 89, about 1978 "Borderline Cemeteries, Headstone History Cemetery Inscriptions. Thank you for any help you can give on my "brick wall." Jan Fenter Portland, OR [email protected]
Does anyone know if the Missionary Baptists had a publication in 1901 that would have carried the obituaries of members in Saline and Grant counties? If so, where are copies available for research? I have the same question related to a Presbyterian who died in Saline County in 1886. What church publication carried those obituaries and where are copies available for research? Marilyn Kosanke
