My grandmother has recalled the name Zettie COLE as her maternal grandmother's name. I would like to uncover all of the information that I can about her and her family. RITZ, Lula Mae is my great-grandmother. She married BUFFINGTON, John Harland in 1919. I believe that Lula Mae's father is John RITZ (b. 1869 in Indiana). Assuming that Zettie COLE is Lula Mae's mother: 1. What was her full name? I have found several COLE listings on the 1880 Saline County census. One possibility is a family of Eli Dial and Rozette. They had daughters Dora Lee (2 on the census) and Mary Calline (born in Dec). 2. Who were her parents? If the above listing is a match then I know. Otherwise, who were they? 3. When did she marry John RITZ? Any other information related to these families is welcome. Charles McCool [email protected]
Does anybody know of the relation, if any, between Andrew MCCOOL and Elias MCCOOL? Andrew MCCOOL, my ancestor, appears on the 1860 census as a 55 year old. It is believed that his family moved from Fayette County, AL>AR around 1858. Elias MCCOOL appears on the 1850 census as a 31 year old, married in 1847 to Rhoda in TN. From the children's ages, it appears that they moved from TN>AR around 1841. It lists Elias as being born in IL. So, are these MCCOOLs related? Who is their common ancester? How, when, and why did Elias move from IL>TN? How did his family get to IL? Thanks, Charles McCool
Like Jan Fenter, I too would like to know if there are town historians for Traskwood, AR. Or a newpaper that would have archived articales from the mid to late 1800's of that area. I have HAWKINS, RICHARDS, BENEDICT, MITCHELL and BRASWELL relations from Traskwood, Saline Co., AR. Some of my Benedict ancestors are buried at Fair Play Cemetery, and I would like to know if there is a sexton or burial records available for that cemetery, and who I would need to contact is there is one. Thanks for you time.... Nancy Hawkins Shockey >Hi all, >I'm interested in finding the person who would be the town historian for Traskwood and< >Fair Play, in Saline County. Hi all, I'm interested in finding the person who would be the town historian for Traskwood and Fair Play, in Saline County. Is there such a person now in these towns or areas? My surname is FENTER, my g grandfather was James "Henry" FENTER. He lived in Traskwood and had three children. On the 1880 Arkansas Census, it listed James FENTER, 2 daughters Safrona (6) and Tina (4) and places of birth were all Arkansas. The wife is not listed, James is a widower. (I believe the wife's name to be Emily, and someone suggested her maiden name to be Dowdy, but my grandfather's SS card application says it was EDGERTON.) On a different day, the same 1880 census, these two girls and their brother Henry Walter FENTER, were also enumerated with the TANNER family of Fair Play. They were listed as nieces and nephew, but place of birth of the TANNERS was Georgia and the census taker wrote down Georgia as place of birth for the children. I understand there was a very active church in Fair Play about 1880 and a good school system in Traskwood. My g grandfather and the children probably used both of these facilities during that time. I have a copy of "Goodspeed Biographical and Historical Memoirs of Central Arkansas" which has Saline County in it. I have had contact with the FENTER Association in Benton/Malvern, and have written to both the genealogical societies in Saline County and Hot Spring County and have received some good information from both, but haven't been able to establish a connection of my James to their information about the Christian FENTER family descendents. Is there a historian for Traskwood and or Fair Play? Thank you for your help. Jan FENTER Portland, Oregon [email protected]
Hi all I hope this is not an inappropriate place to ask this question, but here goes. I have Family Tree Maker 3 and am thinking of installing Family Tree Maker 5. I currently have over 7000 names in my database, and I am wondering if I will be able to transfer those names to the upgraded version. Has anyone out there upgraded from the Version Three to Version Five, and were there any problems doing so? Please respond privatly to [email protected] Thanks very much Charlene
Hello All, Someone on another message list told me that I could find some info on my family on page 47 of the "Ark Family Historian". The information is from the Robert Dean Bible. Does anyone have access to this book that would be willing to send me the information? I am looking for anything on William L. RYE (Robert DEAN's uncle), John R. RYE, Robert DEAN and anyone else mentioned. Thanks, Lyn

I recently received the following information about my BUFFINGTON line. William BUFFINGTON (26 years old on 1880 census) m. Mary Marceline MILLER (23 years old on 1880 census) + Jewel BUFFINGTON (4 years old on 1880 Saline county census) m. Carrie WARREN ++ John Harland BUFFINGTON, b. Oct 17, 1897 m. Lula Mae RITZ, b. August 9, 1900 (father was Andrew RITZ from Germany) +++ Marian Louise BUFFINGTON, b. 1920 (my grandmother) m. Charles Mathis MCCOOL, b. 1920 Belfast, AR Dr. Turner Ellis BUFFINGTON was another son of William and Mary (and brother to Jewel). So, I have lots of holes to fill. Please provide any information about these ancestors or answers to these specific questions: 1. Dates and places of birth, marriage, death, and burial for all. 2. Who are William's parents? 3. What is the lineage for Andrew RITZ, Carrie WARREN, and Mary MILLER? 4. Who was Lula Mae's mother (and Andrew's wife)? 5. At least of couple of these people are buried in Hicks Cemetery and have new headstones, I heard. Is there someone I can contact to get information for burials in Hicks Cemetery? Thank you very much. Please contact me, also, if these names appear in your research. I am always interested in meeting new cousins. Charles McCool 1853 Post Oak Trail Reston, VA 20191-5218
Lyn wrote that she was looking for the following family in Benton: RYE, William Lox, in 1910. The index to Saline County 1910 census by Eddit Landreth lists W. L. Rye, Dwelling 82, in Benton, Saline Township. This is the only Rye listed. Only the heads of households or people with different surnames from the head are listed. Good luck, Carolyn
Thanks to everyone that sent me the dwelling numbers for my folks in the 1910 Census Index. You have saved me a tremendous amount of time!!! You are the best! Lyn
OOPS I also need the page number for the following family from the 1910 Census Index. From the Benton area: STINSON, David Homer, Nora, Edward Carl, William Agie, David Earl, Council Lee, Thomas Andrew, John, Nannie Vera, Leonard. Thanks again, Lyn
Hello Everyone, Would anyone, by any chance have the Index for the 1910 Census? Our library has the tape, but not the Index. All I need to know is the page number. As you probably know, it is quite a large census and it would save me a tremendous amount of time to know the page number. I am looking for the following family in Benton: RYE, William Lox, Amanda, Lillie May, Pearl, Myrtle Veo Thank you, Lyn
Thank you, everyone, for responding to my previous queries. I strongly suspect that my MCCOOL great-grandfather is buried in Mars Hill Cemetery (per an e- mail that referenced the Cemeteries of Saline County books by Mrs. Barber). Anyway, the book only lists: MCCOOL, Daniel Rand, Pvt. October 31, 1894 - June 5, 1948 I need to get more information about this person. He is not listed in SSDI so he probably did not have a Social Security Number (died too early). There are a few other MCCOOLs listed in the same cemetery: Henry B (his brother, I believe), Mary Ellen (his mother?), a Baby Girl (d. 1975), and Ruby (no dates). Are they all buried close together? I have requested my grandfather's birth record, which should confirm whether or not he is his father. While I wait, I would still like to find answers to these questions: * is Rand his full middle name? is it short for Randolph? * the Pvt. probably means that he was a Private during WWI, right? * does his tombstone have additional information on it? I guess at this point I wonder if there is a very generous person that could visit the cemetery for me. * Alternatively, is there another source? Is the cemetery part of the Mars Hill Chuch? If so, is there a recommended contact name? * who are his family members? is Mary Ellen MCCOOL his mother? is Henry his brother? who is his father? spouse? children? I suspect that one of his sons is Charles Mathis (Charlie), my grandfather, born in 1920. * then I would be interested in any related information whatsoever. What did he do, for work? How did he die? Where did he live? go to school? serve in WWI? Basically, any info about him at all. Of course, I would also love to contact any descendants. Thank you so much, Charles McCool 1853 Post Oak Trail Reston, VA 20191-5218 [email protected]
