Hi I am looking for information about the following family found in the 1900 Scott County census of Hunt Twp at Dwelling #2. His oldest son, shown below, is not found in Scott County in 1900. J.F. Price is not found in the 1880 Scott County census, but this census below indicates that he was born in Arkansas. As many of the families that ended up in Scott County came from Saline County and this family is associated with a family that originally came from Saline County, I am wondering if they may have come from Saline County too. Margrett: I don't know anything about your MANN-DEER family, but I thought the DEER name was one I'd seen somewhere. Since I don't think it's a very common name, I'll pass on to you what information I've seen about it (which isn't much). I have the indexes to the 1870 and 1880 Grant County, Arkansas, censuses, and there are several DEER families listed in each (but none with daughter Susan in 1870). Also, I noted in the Saline County Marriage Index that Berry MANN's bondsman at the time of MANN's marriage to Susan DEER, was George WITHAM; and that J. L. MANN, age 24, married Elizabeth WITHAM, 17, 28 March 1880, Book E., p. 32. So this indicates to me there was some connection between the MANNs and the WITHAMs. There's a George W. WITHAM, age 16, in the household of David BUNCH in Saline County in 1870, according to the transcription of that census; and there is a note stating that David BUNCH's wife Elizabeth A. was a WITHAM--so even though George is listed as a farm laborer, it might be that he was Elizabeth's brother. [Dwelling 44, Wills Township, which was created out of Saline Township and became part of Saline Township again after this census] There are also BUNCHs and WITHAMs living close to one another in Saline Township, Dwellings 202 and 204. Marriage Book C, p. 138 has a marriage between Daivd BUNCH, 24, and Betsy Ann WITHAM, 22, on April 18, 1867; and Marriage Book E, p. 162 has the marriage of a Bettie BUNCH, 16, to a J. W. WITHAM, 25, 29 August 1881. (There's also a marriage between a WITHUM and a BUNCH in Saline County in 1855.) Note also that the marriage date for Berry MANN and Susan DEER in the index I have is dated 17 December 1878 instead of the date you gave. I'm sorry I don't know anything concrete but perhaps these clues might lead to something. Joseph Rhodes and Sarah Parrish Rhodes moved from Walker Co. Georgia with their children about 1871. They settled in Saline Co. Ark and had a few more children there. I have the Joseph Masters Rhodes>Drucilla Kinnniard family to Oklahoma but would love to know something of the others, and what happened to them after marriage. This all took place for Joseph and Drucilla around Nuna, and Bauxite. Kay of Denver
Meriman Baxley and Martha ? married about 1884 Saline Co. and it was the 3rd marriage for both. He must have raised Martha's dau, Drucilla Kinniard. Could anyone find any record of their marriage or any info appreciated. I have Drucilla's marriage to Joseph Rhodes there but am tracing more about Drucilla and Martha. Joseph Rhodes sister, Mary A. also married a Baxley, Mirman but a different one, maybe not even a son named after a father, but could have been uncle. Kay of Denver

Greetings to all !! My name is Sharon. I live in Texas. The folks on this mailing list have already been so helpful to me. I really appreciate all your kindness in sharing information about Saline County. The info I have received from you folks has helped me to discover new information about my beloved cousins, whom our family has lost touch with !! In addition to thanking you, I'd appreciate our members taking a look at some of this "new" info. I am sure hoping that (with your help) I will finally find my dear cousins children and grandchildren !! (Please read on >>>) This is what I've learned with your help: My beloved great-aunt, Eva ROBERTS -WILLEY- HICKS died in Saline County, Arkansas Sept.12,1961. She had been a member of the Salem Methodist church in the early 1920s. She apparently was a member of a Nazerine church when she died in 1961. Ashbys Funeral Home took care of the burial arrangements. And BAXLEY's Monument company was commissioned to engrave her headstone. The gravestone was paid for by Eva HICKS daughter. Her daughter's name is Mildred THOMPSON. I had knewn my Aunt Eva had a daughter named Mildred, but I did not know what Mildred's married name was. I know that our dear cousin Mildred THOMPSON had children, but sadly, I don't know any of their names (for sure). Mildred THOMPSON had lived in Alexander area in the 1940s, from what I am told by my family. Some of her children may still be there... (I just don't know.) So, before I start calling long distance, to every THOMPSON in the Saline county area, I just thought I would call upon the kindness of our list members again. (>smiling<) Does any one know of this THOMPSON family ??? (Please read on >>>) Mildred THOMPSON had brothers that I would like to mention. One brother was Richard R. WILLEY. I discovered last night that he died only last year in WA. He had been in the logging business in Saline Co., with his brothers -- Leonard and Dale WILLEY and their father W.R. (Billy) WILLEY. I will be submitting Richard's obit to the list later. But want to give you new info on Mildred's brother Leonard LeRoy WILLEY. (He is buried in the Pipkins Cemetery by their parents: W.R.WILLEY & Eva W. HICKS.) In the early 1960s the BAXLEY monument company was also commissioned to engrave a headstone for Leonard WILLEY. It reads: "Father" Leonard LeRoy Willey 1908 - 1930 Virginia DURBAN or DURBIN paid for this gravestone in the early 1960s, according to BAXLEY's. I suspect she was the daughter of Leonard WILLEY. I am hoping to find her and or her children, to comfirm her relations with Leonard WILLEY. But, I have found only one family living in the Saline County area with the name DURBIN. I have tryed to contact them several times this week already, without success. Purportly these folks (Phillip & Candy Durbin) are connected in some way to this lady -- Virginia DURBAN / DURBIN. Does anyone in our group know this couple or ANY other folks named DURBAN / DURBIN who might be connected to my Virginia DURBAN / DURBIN ??? If you can, please help me find my "lost" cousins. Some may still carry the THOMPSON surname, and some may carry the surname of DURBIN or DURBAN. I have so many lovely old pictures and stories to share with these cousins, as well as lots of loving family -- Just longing to be reunited with them. As always...... With Grateful Regards, Sharon (Houston - Kingwood, Texas) [email protected]
Dear Folks, First I want to thank you all for helping me discover important information about my WILLEY family. I had written before, asking about the Pipkins Cemetery in Saline county, Arkansas. I have family members: Leonard LeRoy Willey, and William R.(Billy) WILLEY, buried in this cemetery. The headstones read: Leonard LeRoy WILLEY 1908 - 1930 (Note: His headstone also has "Father" on it. I know that Leonard was the "son" of W.R. WILLEY, so I'm a bit bewilder, since I am unaware of any marriage or children that Leonard had, so as to have the title "Father" inscribe on his headstone.) W. R. WILLEY 1882 - 1940 (Note: This is the inscription on my great uncle William R. WILLEY's headstone. With your help I was able to confirm my findings. about his burial place in Pipkins Cemetery with his son Leonard, and his wife Eva (Roberts) Willey, HICKS.) With your collective help, I was able to confirm that my great aunt is buried there also!! And there is a dear lady from the area named Stacy, who is going to take pictures of the headstones for me !! (THanKS Stacy !!) My great aunt was Eva (Roberts) Willey, HICKS: born: Jan.13,1883 in Texas died: Sept.12,1961 in Saline Co., Arkansas married: June 26,1904 in Washita Co., OK Spouse: William R. WILLEY Married: Mr.HICKS (date unknown) after W.R.WILLEY died Children of Eva (HICKS) & W.R.WILLEY: * Leonard Willey - * Thelma ? Willey - * Mildred ? Willey- ( Lived in Saline Co.,ARK. married with children -- names unknown to me.) * Richard Willey- * Dale Willey - I contacted a former Pipkins Cemtery caretaker, who actually met and knew my WILLEY family when he was a boy !! His name is David Pelton. He lives right by the Pipkins Cemetery on Congo Road. He said my WILLEY's lived in one of the old communities of Congo, Salem, New Hope or Benton, but was not sure which one. By the way -- He told me his mother gave some of her farm land to the cemetery in 1969, before she died, because it was already almost full. If she had not given the land, the cemetery would have been closed, because it was almost filled by 1969. (God bless her soul.) Mr Pelton told me there used to be a Methodist church to service the area. Now the church (still operating in Salem) and has a big camp ground. They also have pictures of old church grounds; buildings, and people of the congregation hanging in the church foyer !!! (I'm hoping there are pictures of my WILLEY folks there.) This church serviced the area by going from one community to the next by way of a circuit preacher. In the evenings, they would ride to someones home for a "singing" and lemonaide. Mr Pelton said my WILLEY's rode in a wagon, with Mr. Willey setting up high, and Eva setting down real low in the wagon. I can understand why...... Eva was a VERY very large woman. ( And the poor dear suffered a lot from being so over weight.) I was able to discover that Ashby's Funeral Home took care of Eva HICKS funeral. Sadly, they had no record of who paid for it. Though the records do say Eva HICKS religion was Nazerine when she died, Ashby's had no info on her children or grandchildren. Can someone check the Sept.12,1961 newspaper obits for Eva HICKS ? Perhaps it would give up some clues about her surviving family. Also, does anyone have info on Nazerine Churches in the Saline County area ?? Eva lived in Alexander in 1944. She may have still been living there in 1961, when she died. Is there a Methodist or Nazerine church there ?? If so, they may have records of her church attendance, with her family. As I said before, I would appreciate any help in finding my "lost" cousins. Any hints -- Any suggestions -- Any info could be very helpful. I have lots of pictures and family info I hope to share with them. Grateful Regards, Sharon

Greetings to all. My name is Sharon. I live in south Texas. And I'm searching for a branch of my dearly loved WILLEY cousins, who my family lost contact with. Some of our oldest family members say we still have WILLEY cousins living in Saline County, Arkansas -- purportedly in or near a place called Bentonville. ( But no one has heard from any of this family "branch" in 15 - 20 years.) Is there even such a place called Bentonville ?? I did find a place called Benton, but not Bentonville, as my elders still insist. I found the burial site of two WILLEY 's who I believe are from our family. These two WILLEY's are buried in the Pipkin (Pitkin?) Cemetery, which appears to be near a town called Benton, in Saline County, Arkansas. Can any one tell me how to get in touch with the care-taker of this cemetery ?? Or what funeral homes may have arranged burials in Pipkins Cemetery during the 1930's and 1940's?? I am hoping to discover more about the family of the two WILLEY's who are buried in the Pipkin Cemetery. (Like who payed for the funeral and burial plots.) I am sure the Funeral and cemetery records will reveal useful infomation. HERE IS THE INFO FROM THE TOMBSTONES in the Pipkin Cemetery: W. R. Willey 1882 - 1940 Leonard LeRoy Willey 1908 - 1930 I believe these folks are my cousins, William R. WILLEY, and his son Leonard WILLEY. Since we have lost all the families address from a house fire, and don't know the married names of these WILLEY girls, all these dearly loved cousins are lost to us. So, I and all my family elders would be forever grateful for any help with finding our cousins and their descendants. Please read the additional info I have on this family bunch below. *NOTE: Some of the children's names and general info may be incorrect, so if anything sounds familar, please write to me. (Known as Ada OWENS) Note: I have lots more info on Eva (ROBERTS) WILLEY's siblings, with their spouses and children, as well as Eva's parents if needed. Years ago, Eva's siblings would visit her with some of their children. These children recall Eva and her husband "Billy Willey" were very sweet folks. Also the WILLEY children were very nice and lots of fun. The WiLLEY family place had delicious raspberries growing on the land. Eva's sister Jimmie Annie (ROBERTS) HALL, used to ride a train with her children, from Oklahoma to Arkansas to visit. Sadly, during one of the visit to the WILLEY home, (either) Eva's husband William, or her son Leonard died. I was told that after William R.(Billy) WILLEY died, Eva lived with her daughter Mildred for a while. Eva is supposed to have remarried at some point, but I don't know to whom. As far as I know Eva lived beside her daughter Mildred near "Bentonville" in Saline Co., Ark., until she became to old to stay alone. At which time Eva moved in with her daughter, and lived out the rest of her days there. Eva's sister, Mary "Ada" (ROBERTS) OWENS also visited Eva and the WILLEY family in Arkansas. "Ada" OWENS used to travel with her grown children ( mainly Ruth & Harvey Moeller) to visit Eva in Arkansas. So some of William WILLEY & Eva's grandchildren may remember an old Aunt "Ada". So WILLEY grandchildren's may have pictures of some HALL, OWENS, ROBERTS, and KINGSTON family relatives in their possession. They may also have pictures of MOORE, Simms, and SHANNON family relatives (just to name a few more). But if they don't have any pictures -- Don't worry -- We have lots to share !! My hope is to find our lost WILLEY family, so that we can share in the lives of our dear family again. Thank you for reading my long email, and for giving your attention to my request. And I'll thank you now for any help you may offer in the way of info or suggestions. Grateful Regards, Sharon
