I am planning a trip to Ark in the next couple of weeks and would like to go to both of them as my Grandparents and Aunts and Uncles are buried in them. Thank you [email protected]

    2. Hello, I am new to the list and am research our great-great-grandparents. They are Richard Bodine Johnston and Sarah E. (Betty) Johnston. They came from Kentucky to Arkansas and their middle child (born in 1862) lists Salem, AR as place of birth. Bodine died in 1862 and Betty remarried in 1866. Has anyone run across this family or could give me a clue as where to look next? Thank You Lynne Bates

    3. Hi, Take a look at this article on Census, It could change alot of our estimating ages. I was surfing a few nights ago, and found this article on "Census Day." Thought it was rather interesting, & others might also. > http://www.genealogybulletin.com/HTML/current.html It could answer why someone b. say a month before census actually was taken doesn't show up, or why someone who died a month or so before actual census taken is listed. This should be required reading for all of us. 3. I read an interesting article on census records. Between 1790-1820 three copies of the census were made, all by hand In 1830 and 1840 two copies were made, again all by hand Between 1850-1880 three copies of the census was made, all by hand Between 1890-1920 one copy was made and as most of us know, most of the 1890 census was destroyed by fire. Is it any wonder that mistakes were made, names misspelled, or even just initials used! I can't imagine having to copy all those records by hand, can you? Charlene

Has anyone been able to compare two versions of any census and find differences? Ths topic could explain why some people suddenly "disappear" for a census or have inconsistent data for one census. 1. Location of BRAZIL, AR
    2. Carey Bracewell
    3. In his definitive "From Memdag to Norsk: A Historical Directory of Arkansas Post Offices, 1832-1971") {AGS, Hot Springs, 1988. p. 28}, and again in a 1990 article in "The Saline", Russel Baker incorrectly places the vanished hamlet of Brazil, Arkansas, in S31 T2N R16W, the location of present day Paron. Brazil was in fact in S5 T1N R16W, about 1 1/2 miles southeast of Paron. MOSES BRAZIL (1803-1872), founder and first postmaster of Brazil, patented land in S5 by preemption in 1835. Baker himself implies different locations for Brazil and Paron in his directory: "BRAZIL, postoffice in Saline County from 1853-1924....When discontinued MAIL SENT TO PARON".Brazil's site can still be accessed from the first logging road south of Paron on State Highway 9. The road turns off by an old Pentecostal Church as shown on the AHTD's 1936 map {http://www.ahtd.state.ar.us/maps.htm}. Special thanks again to the two fellow researchers who supplied the Baker references. Carey

    3. Hurricane Creek is just North of my grandparents (last owned) property, at the northern-most section of the town of Benton, Saline Co., AR. My ggf purchased a great deal of land there, and divided it up among his sons, one of which was my grandfather, Clarence Ramey 'Doc' Harrison. The creek ran through the 'original' land parcel, sort of NW>SW. I believe the TWP was in that general area. Hope this is [email protected]
