Robin, I didn't have any relatives up there that early but I had an aunt that was in there in the 1960's and I can't get any records for her either. The generic response seems to be "all records have been destroyed" and then trying to find a grave is basically the same thing. They have moved these poor people to several different cemeteries making way for new and improved roads, parking lots, etc etc. I hate to bust someone's bubble or play the devils advocate, but I think your chances of finding anything is pretty slim, but it is always worth a postage stamp to try. I also want to say that not all patients were mentally insane, especially back in those years. If you had a drinking problem you were placed in there to dry out, or you could have had a fight with your wife and fought the police (sheriff) and was placed in there as insane. I have lived in the Little Rock area my entire life, and this is just stuff I have read and don't have any actual documented facts to support what I am saying. But...most of my information came from my husband's grandmother who was a nurse there for over 60 years. In fact, she finally retired on her 62nd anniversary. She loved all the patients and I remember her coming home and telling me that this or that person doesn't belong up there, but has no family and they have no other place to put them. There were a lot of very sad stories that came from that hospital. But....maybe you will be one of the lucky ones and can find information about your ancestor, someone needs to, because I feel like these precious souls were just lost to the world. Might also try a ck w/the Pulaski Co Historical Society. They may have articles in their books. Not lists, but might give you some clues. Husband also had a cousin there, all we found was his name on the census as "inmate" and his marker in the family plot. Not a clue a to why he was there or how he died. He did come over w/the family, so he had to have been ok to have gotten past Ellis.
