Linda, I was born in AR. My grandmother died long after record keeping so I know where her grave is and when she got there. Her dad though, died in the Stuttgart area in 1904. No records were kept then according to several volunteers I have found over the years. I tried a local funeral home having an idea that they might have records the town or state did not. Two snail letters with SASE went unacknowledged, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't work for you so that is one suggestion. The folks at the Stuttgart and the Pine Bluff (next county) library were contacted by phone and helped all they could. They found news articles about the great grandmother's death in 1908, but I still don't know where her grave is sited. They found several marriage licenses and a couple of grave sites for other relatives, all in the pre 1915 era. So I would surely suggest a contact with the local library. On the other hand, an apparently very experienced genealogist who often posts to these mailing lists has often explained that not everyone bothered to note stuff like who died and where they were planted until they had to ... She has often mentioned some books by a person named Desmond (? pardon my senior moment here) so you might hunt those down or consult someone who owns them. I am trying to find a volunteer/paid researcher for the Little Rock or Fayetteville archives archives to look for a funeral item for grgranpa who died in Oct ... the 4th or the 9th ... of 1904. I expect to get lucky one day soon. I bet there are folks on this list who can come up with more and even better ideas, so don't give up just yet. ron in CA -----Original Message----- From: Mslinnie2004@aol.com Sent: Nov 26, 2004 8:50 AM To: ARPULASK-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [ARPULASK] Suggestion or help please Have you any suggestion how I could go about getting some kind of concrete info on my great grandfather and grandmother? It is difficult for me to coprehend burying people within civilization and not knowing who and where they died. There just has to be some kind of documentation.
