I would be greatly surprised if you found a birth record for him. As it is very possible that this person lived past 1914, I would check the death index first if he died in Arkansas. This should be available at your local library providing you reside within Arkansas. If he is listed, you will get a county and a date which would make it possible to order a death certificate. If you live out of state it is currently $35. Arkansas residents pay considerably less. Also, have you tried the 1860 census? This site has some really good stuff on line, so you may wish to return to the front of the site and see if you can figure out something. If you know his dad's name, I would suggest you post in the Arkansas site ran by Jim Martin relating to the Civil War. Smallpox was common back during those times, so wherever they were when the illness struck them, was they were buried. The bodies would not have been shipped back to the family at all.
