Can anyone tell me something of the Thomas Bryant family living in Paulski County in 1870, then Baxter County 1880, 1900. I would like to be able to contact a descendant of the Thomas Bryant the head of the family. I believe he had two marriages and perhaps three. By the first marriage he had son George, daughters Elizabeth and Malinda and Stacy and Arkansas that I do not know the sex of. Then by the second marriage he had a daughter Ellen and the second wife was Jane E. Unknown maiden name. The third wife, if there was one was Elizzi E. The only reason I believe there was a third wife is that the birth state is definitely not the same for both women, even though the middle initial for both was an "E". The daughter Malinda B. Bryant born in 1854 and married to Jesse N. Morris in 1875 then died in Jan of 1876 and is buried at the Big Flat Cemetery. I do not know the names of his parents. I believe this famly is connected to the Methany family as I think the second wife of Thomas Bryant was Jane E. Matheny at one time. She is the mother of Jeremiah F. Methany but that is all I know of her. George Bryant and his family are living in the Big Flat area for the 1900 census. If there were any descendants of Thomas Bryant who could help answer questions about the Jane E. Bryant, second wife of Thomas Bryant, I would appreciate the contact. dbton@yahoo.com
I recently found my Great Aunt Mary E. Paris there in Pulaski Co. She was in the 1900 Census at age 55. Mary had 3 of her children listed with her, Lucy age 25, George age 21 and Charlie age 17. Another girl named Mattie must of already been married at this time. Mary was a widow her husband was William Paris/Parris. It is not known if he died there or somewhere else. She is not seen after the 1900 census so am assuming she died sometime after. Lucy death was on 1-6-48 there. She never married. Would anyone have a marriage book to see if the other three married there. Also a death record book to see if Mary, William and their other children died there. I would appreciate any help very much. Mildred, I will be willing to look over anything that might give me a clue. What is the URL for the Faulkner County site that you mentioned? I would like to have contact with a desendant of the Thomas Bryant family who was found on the 1870 Pulaski County census and on the 1880 Baxter County census. Here is the information I know: MATHENY, JEREMIAH (1870 U.S. Census) ARKANSAS , PULASKI, EASTMAN TWP Age: 17, Male, Race: WHITE, Born: AR Series: M593 Roll: 62 Page: 169 Working on farm for a Wright family Pulaski Co AR 1870 census for Eastman Township - pg 16, Household # 110, Family # 134. Thomas Bryant 46 farmer GA. Jane 37 GA. Elizabeth 17 AR. Malinda 12 AL. Stacy 11 AR. Arkansas 9 AL. Ellen 1 AR. NOTE: The apparent age of Jane (37) could indicate this is a 2nd marriage. The age of the youngest child (1) could indicate that perhaps this child is from a second marriage. Pulaski Co. AR 1870 census for Eastman Township - page 16, Household #110, Family # 135. George Bryant 19 AL farmer. Adeline 20 AL. Arkadelphia 3/12 AR. NOTE: The apparent age of George, in relationship to the children in Family 134, would indicate he could be a son of Thomas Bryant. Jane, in Family 134, may or may not be his mother. Living nearby is a Jeremiah Matheny age 17 working on a farm. The reason for this note is that then: Baxter Co AR 1880 census for Big Flat Township - page 5, Household # 23. Thomas Bryant 53 farmer TN -- --. Jane E 48 GA -- --. Elizabeth 27 single AL TN GA. J F Metheny 27 stepson widower AL GA GA. Remarks: Typhoid fever. Van Luther 25 boarder AR -- --. Joseph Luther AR -- --. NOTE: One researcher said: The age of Elizabeth and birth places of her parents indicate she is Jane's daughter; therefore, Jane is probably the mother of all the children of Thomas Bryant.) The notation that J F Metheny is a widower indicates his wife is deceased. I believe the J.F. Metheny is the same Jeremiah Matheny who was age 17 and living near the Bryant family in the 1870 Pulaski Co., census. THUS: I do not believe Jane Bryant is the mother of the Elisabeth Bryant. I believe she is the stepmother. I DO NOT have proof. Now, Jeremiah F. Matheny married Nomia(sp) Morton daughter of Dr. Thomas and Sarah Jane Beck Morton who lived in Izard, Stone and Baxter counties sometime between 1870 and 1877 as they had a daughter Nancy Arabelle Matheny born in AR on 27 Feb 1877. It is known that the mother died in either childbirth or when the child was very young. There are three of Arabell's children still alive in Texas and they all say she lived with her father and/or her paternal grandmother. If so, she shoud have been listed in the Bryant household where the father was for the 1880 census but was NOT. Other family members not as directly related as the three lised above said she was raised by Uncle Arkie - who ever that was. It is known that Arabelle's father was a traveling Church of Christ minister. That is the reason given for the moving from AR into TX, where Arabelle Matheny was listed as living when her grandfather Dr. Thomas Morton died in 1889 and his estate was settled. Arabell marr! ied Samuel F. Terry and lived all of her married life in TX where she died in 1943 and and is buried at Mart Cemetery in Mart, Texas. As we are trying to establish who the parents of Jeremiah Matheny were, we need contact from any descendant of this Thomas Bryant who might have knowledge of the Jane E. Bryant, listed as his wife on those 1870 and 1880 census records. If she was also the mother of Jeremiah Matheny we would like to know. Respectfully, Dorothy Boynton Contact: dbton@yahoo.com
I have found whom I think is my Potter family member in the 1880 Federal Census-- living in Young Township, Pulaski County, Arkansas: S. A. Potter, wife Caroline The ages and children match up, but I cannot find this family in the 1870 census or the 1900 census. The S. A. stands for Sylvester Arden, b. circa 1850 New York. A letter from his sister received by another family member seems to indicate that Sylvester had a hard life and might have been deceased by the 1904 date of the letter.... I can find no marriage or death information on Sylvester. His children, Wilett, Lura, nd Anson Lee were born between 1872-1878-- Can anyone help on where I could possibly get copies of birth certificates? Thanks, Bonnie- E-Mail: dfago@cox.net
I wonder how many out there have great ideas or tools for handling genealogy materials. I bought a "mail box" at an auction at a school, which was closing. It was evidently hung on the wall outside the principal's office, with notices or mail for each teacher, and is about 5 feet tall and 12 inches wide and 4 inches deep, made of lightweight metal, like a light file cabinet is. It has 17 slots. I have used it while making a notebook out of each family's materials. When I 'm not using it, it stores behind the door. When I am using it, I lean it against a bookcase next to my computer desk, within easy reach. Small refrigerator magnets, holding a family member's name and number in order of birth, placed on the side visible to me, helps me identify each family member's file slot. Before I bought this handy mail box, I was utilizing our card table, plus one small table on wheels, to spread out and collate my family lines, and with some families with 10 to 15 children, it was not very handy, and I never had enough room. I am attempting to locate any descendants of one Thomas Ewel BURROW, who in 1900 was a 37 yr. old widower in Little Rock with 3 children - Claude, Lawrence, & Emma. By 1907, he has remarried, & moved to St. Louis, along with the previously mentioned family and possibly an older son James H. Burrow. Ca 1914-15, he has sold his shoe company, and returned to Little Rock with his wife. My motive is to learn, hopefully, something more about Mr. Burrow's employment from 1906 - 1910 ( in 1910 he founded his own shoe company called Burrow, Jones & Dyer). Thank you in advance. Is there any chance that you might see if there's a marriage record for Elizabeth Anderson and/or Elizabeth Baker and someone named Hardin/Harding possibly in 1870 time frame. I wish I had more accurate spellings and names. I've been "fishing" like this for years. Allegedly, Elizabeth Anderson married a BAKER (my gr gr grandparents) and then after their daughter was born, Leona BAKER, in 1868, her father disappeared (she was about five) and her mother remarried, leaving Leona to be raised in Reville, AR by a family named Taylor. This has been a great mystery to me in my genealogy research. Thank you, so very much.
