Go to this link at the National Archives and follow the instructions for order World War I personnel records. http://www.archives.gov/veterans/military-service-records/ Be sure to ask for all the records in his personnel file and not just a marriage record. There may be insurance records, discharge, records, and other things that will give you a lot of info. Good luck with your research! Ralph Poore 3440 S. I believe he was there by 1929 but cannot find him in the 1930 census. His name was Dr. William Harold Boswell. He may have had a physician's office in North Little Rock. He also may have had either a drug store or a liquor store. I know he had a liquor store at 810 Broadway in Rose City when he died there in 1941. Would anyone be willing to check City Directories for me? I would be glad to reciprocate in any way I can. I do have some Family Treemaker research cds and would do look-ups in exchange. 1. James Elias Smith, pressman
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Smith Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/0V.2ADE/2339 Message Board Post: I posted a question re: James Elias about two years ago. I haven’t had a whole lot of luck since then, but I do have some new information. James Elias Smith was born January 25, 1875 in Arkansas. The 1920 Census says his parents were born in the United States but give no additional information. According to the Little Rock, AR city directories, he was a pressman for the Arkansas Democrat from 1893-1898. During this time, he lived with Caroline M. Smith, widow of August E or Augustus Smith, but I do not if they were related or how they were related. The address was 801 Victory. I can’t find a Caroline Smith in the city in 1900, and there are several 25 year old James Smith’s in Arkansas at the time. He’s sometimes listed as James E. Smith, James Elias Smith, and J. E. Smith. I’ve also looked into August E. Smith, but cannot conclusively find him or Caroline. James E. Smith was married by 1918 according to his WWI draft registration card. His wife is listed as Bessie Smith. In the 1920 census, Bess Smith is listed as being 22 years old. She had three children, J. E. Smith, Jr. (James Everett Smith), Clara N. (Clara Nell Smith), and Mabel Irene. All were under the age of 3. They lived in Little Rock, Pulaski County, AR. The children were all born in Arkansas. Bess is listed as being born in Arkansas. According to the 1920 census, her parents were born in Kentucky and Tennessee. According to the 1930 census in El Paso, TX where she worked as a servant in Earl Barron’s house, her parents were born in Kentucky and Missouri. At some point between 1925-1930, James Elias Smith left the family. It is unsure whether he died or simply did not come home. There was a rumor he went up the Ohio River. The 1930 census shows Bess as a widow, but that could have been a default answer since there was no information about James Elias’ whereabouts. My father has tried to help me piece together this research, but his memories of his grandmother were from her later years and he does not know what her maiden name was. He says she had a darker complexion because she was part Indian. She had one arm and one leg because when she was younger she lost them to blood poisoning. If anyone could help me with furthering my research, I would really appreciate it. Wayne Thomas has already been a great help in finding Bess and her children in El Paso, TX. My father didn’t remember his father being in a children’s home until I mentioned it to him. Though I have no plans to publish my information, I have no problem crediting those who help me. Any information published on rootsweb or ancestry.com (or any other only genealogy sites) will be credited to the individuals that help me find it. Sincerely, Jamie Smith

If I were you, I would post this message also in the counties surrounding Pulaski. The reason he was born in Little Rock may be that his folks were from somewhere in Pulaski County. Or it could have been there was not a hospital where they lived and the parents went to Little Rock. If he was born at University or UAMS it is now called, it could have been a charity case back then so more than likely they came in from another part of the state. I know that was done a lot if the family had no money or any way to get their hands on any. It was right after WWII but this part of the country did not really start to develop until the late 50's. It is very possible his dad was in WWII. Just a lot of factors to consider, but I would post in surrounding counties as Little Rock as changed a lot in the last 50 years and a lot of folks have moved out. Good luck!

Per chance you are interested in a researcher, I am senidng you this. This lady may be your best chance of ever finding out anything. The other posting about the death index not starting until 1914 is correct and in the early years, not every death got reported. Write to Sherryl Miller in care of the Lonoke County Museum at PO Box 873, Lonoke, Arkansas 72086. She will go to the history commission in Little Rock to search. She likes to see everything in writing especially what you are hoping to find as well as what you know that might serve as clues. She has been very helpful to me in the past. Sherryl receives a donation to the museum building fund for her efforts. This is her way of helping out. The museum is in great need of a new roof. Hope this helps. Linda

    1. Re: [ARPULASK] Death info
    2. You are lucky enough to have a date for her death...and maybe the baby's as well. I haven't tried this in Pulaski Co, but it worked in others. Go to USGENWEB PAGE FOR PULASKI CO. (There may also be a Rootsweb page ) Look for links for cemetery listings. Some sites will even have funeral parlor records on line (Vermiloin Co, IL for instance) If you get no where with that, try some calls to currently operating funeral parlors and see what they can tell you about who was in business in `1909 and who has the records now. There may be places where old newspapers are on reels and they might have had a story, it would be small. Look for the Pulaski Co library system on line. You may be able to do a request by email... otherwise a phone call might be needed. Since you say it is a distant relative this may sound like too much trouble, but there is even the archives of newspapers in the Arkansas History Comm. ron in CA -----Original Message----- >From: mike@streetdrugs.org > >I am looking for info on a distant relative by the name of Alice B.
