Here is the site for Oakland Cemetery's listings for Callahan, that includes some O'Callaghans I know of. Go to their Home listing for the O'Callahan/O'Callaghans. They describe how to order photos, etc. This family lived in Big Rock Twp. My husband's family lived near and were friends with the O'Callaghans. I posted a photo on AncientFaces.com of my husband's father, Fay Erion Bodishbaugh and his best friend, Carroll O'Callaghan. I need to post an old family story, from the 1910-1920 era of these two boys. My mother-in-law is still in LR. Everyone on that block and/or neighborhood is buried at Oakland, I believe. One of the church members was a plot salesman. I believe you can call Oakland and/or the Arkansas History Commission. I was told I could purchase a CD of pix of the entire cemetery markers from the AHC (or Oakland), for a very minimal fee, like $4. I checked my database. We have no link blood-wise but at some point I felt the O'Callaghans were close enough to be included and, as many other neighbors, I might find they were related. Here's what I've listed: 14th US Census (1920), Big Rock Twp, 8th Ward, Little Rock, 142/145, lines 91-94: Carroll O'Callaghan, 18, a/s/a Callaghan, b.AR, Clerk in soda fountain, enumerated w/parents: William G. O'Callaghan, 52-b.MS-father b.SC-mother b.TN-engineer with the steam railroad in Little Rock Ada B. O'Callaghan, 43-b.Ar-father b.TN, mother b.KY-"at home'" Olympia O'Callaghan, 20-Single-W-F-Clerk. Carroll O'Callaghan was the best friend of Fay Erion Bodishbaugh (b.1903), who lived on the next block over. Both their fathers worked for the Missouri-Pacific Railroad "MoPac," at the RepTrac [Repair Track], in Little Rock. Carroll's father was an engineer and Fay's father, Charles F. Bodishbaugh, was supervisor of the Repair Shop. Carroll and Fay were about age nine one hot Arkansas summer when they snuck into a refrigerated boxcar loaded with lettuce. The lettuce was packed with huge ice blocks and the boys liked to chip the ice and eat it, as we do popsicles. While in the lettuce car, the trainman walked the line, the tops of the cars, and noted an open hatch. This was a safety violation, so he closed and latched it. And off went the train to it's destination. For three days, two Arkansas families, law enforcement personnel, friends and neighbors frantically searched the city and county, believing their sons had been kidnapped or murdered. Fay's uncle was Little Rock Mayor Ben Brickhouse, and he pulled every string he could for assistance. Three days later, somewhere in Texas, train personnel unloading a produce shipment found two very frightened, very cool young boys stowed away amongst their lettuce. They made the calls and arrangements for the boys to return to Little Rock and placed them, with supervision, on a homeward bound train. In those days, every family member of a railroad worker had a pass that entitled them to ride free anywhere within the country. They didn't have their passes with them, but railroad men were a strong community of brotherhood. The boys were okay. They were just very cold, tired, hungry, and more than frightened at what punishment might await them. They'd been repeatedly told not to play on the railyard. Fay's father Charles had vivid memories of losing his 6-year old cousin Darryl Bodishbaugh, who was run over by a train, his body cut into thirds. Every train family had its horror stories. The greeting of the boys was never recounted in this family tale but I seem to recall Uncle Don (Fay's brother) saying both parents were so elated to find the boys alive, there was no punishment. My mother's cousin was a beautiful red haired woman in the picture of health one minute and gone the next. She had inherited this beautiful auburn red hair from her red haired Irishman grandfather (who served with the Confederacy during the Civil War) so she was somewhat unique especially in the German community. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/0V.2ADE/2343.2.1 Message Board Post: I know this off suject of genealogy but in is an illness taht can be passed down genetically What is amyloidosis? Amyloidosis is a group of diseases that result from the abnormal deposition of a particular protein, called amyloid, in various tissues of the body. Amyloid protein can be deposited in a localized area, and may not be harmful or only affect a single tissue of the body. This form of amyloidosis is called localized amyloidosis. Amyloidosis that affects tissues throughout the body is referred to as systemic amyloidosis. Systemic amyloidosis can cause serious changes in virtually any organ of the body. Amyloidosis can occur as its own entity or "secondarily" as a result of another illness, including multiple myeloma, chronic infections (such as tuberculosis or osteomyelitis), or chronic inflammatory diseases (such as rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis). Amyloidosis can also be localized to a specific body area from aging. This localized form of amyloidosis does not have systemic implications for the rest of the body. The protein that deposits in the brain of patients with Alzheimer's disease is a form of amyloid. Systemic amyloidosis has been classified into three major types that are very different from each other. These are distinguished by a two-letter code that begins with an A (for amyloid). The second letter of the code stands for the protein that accumulates in the tissues in that particular type of amyloidosis. The three types of systemic amyloidosis are primary (AL), secondary (AA), and hereditary (ATTR). Primary Amyloidosis Primary amyloidosis, or AL, is occurs when a specialized cell in the bone marrow (plasma cell) spontaneously overproduces a particular protein portion of an antibody called the light chain. (This is why it is coded as AL). The deposits in the tissues of persons with primary amyloidosis are AL proteins. Primary amyloidosis can occur with a bone marrow cancer of plasma cells called multiple myeloma. Primary amyloid is not associated with any other diseases, but is a disease entity of its own, usually requiring chemotherapy treatment. Secondary Amyloidosis When amyloidosis occurs "secondarily" as a result of another illness, such as multiple myeloma, chronic infections (e.g., tuberculosis or osteomyelitis), or chronic inflammatory diseases (e.g., rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis), the condition is referred to as secondary amyloidosis, or AA. The amyloid tissue deposits in secondary amyloidosis are AA proteins. The treatment of patients secondary amyloidosis is directed at treating the underlying illness in that particular patient. Familial Amyloidosis Familial amyloidosis, or ATTR, is a rare form of inherited amyloidosis. The amyloid deposits in familial amyloidosis are composed of the protein transthyretin, or TTR, which is made in the liver. Familial amyloidosis is inherited an autosomal dominant in genetics terminology. This means that for the offspring of a person with the condition, there is a 50% chance of inheriting it. 1 2 Glossary Amyloidosis Center | Next

You can try the Arkansas Death Index which covers from 1914-1918. If they were living in 1910, some may have made it as long as 1914. It will tell you their date of death and then perhaps you can order a death certificate on some. The death index is a common book in Arkansas public libraries. If you are interested in an obit, I know a lady who does research if you wish to go that way. She will go to the history commission in Little Rock and search. But as far as real info on causes of death, I cannot be a bit of help. Someone in the group may have had the disease. In my family typhoid took several lives and nearly took my mother in 1940 so something besides just the rare disease may have gotten them. It is very possible that their names are listed in the cemeteries of the county. That info is found on the opening of this site. It depends on how you came to this area to post on whether you saw it or not. If you have photos you were blessed and that indicates to me that the family was living pretty well for the times. If they were German it is very possible they are in the German cemetery as my cousin would say, but what it is now called I cannot recall. If they were German it is very possible that someone came down to Little Rock from St. Louis. LInda
