From my cousin, for whom I am doing some research, she says, concerning her dad, Cecil Young, and his siblings, Hazel and Parker: Daddy played baseball and he played first base on their ball team. He was also a Lefty. He stayed at the orpanage and never got adopted. He was sent out on work details. He lived there until he was grown up. I think somebody adopted Hazel when she was little, but not too little, because they were very close. Parker was an epileptic and was in an institution and died of pneumonia there when he was a young man. I have pic of him and Daddy when they were about in their 20's. so I'm not sure when he died. My question: Does anyone know of any photos of children during this period, 1920's to early 1930's, and perhaps a photo or news item about the baseball team Cecil might have been on? Also, what sanitarium would Parker likely have been in?
For pictures and some info the History Commission does have the Catholic newspaper for Arkansas. That might be one avenue for information. I am sure there would be a story or two for instance on the baseball team. Orphans & baseball would make for a good human interest story
There is an excellent article (or series of articles), posted in the Pulaski County Historical Society's publication and I believe it is the orphanage you seek. Contact them, for I recall reading it about five years ago. It does not give "lists" or data lists, but does mention many people involved and the history itself was meticulously researched and presented. I donated my copy to our Special Collections Dept at the library here. Best of luck! A great many people were listed, some as students, some as inmates, he was listed as student, but I know he lived there as did his sister and perhaps a brother. His brother lived in a private home as a boarder in 1930, and died in sanitarium of epilepsy as a young man. If anyone has any knowledge of this orphanage, or records of it, I would like to know, as we don't know my uncle's parents, except that in 1920, he was in a home, when what appeared to be his father was head, and said to be married, but no wife was in the home.

This site has a picture of the orphanage at the bottom: http://elainerice.50megs.com/Album.htm As far as records etc maybe the archives at the Diocese of Arkansas.
If I am still mistaken its in North Little Rock, near Camp Robinson and I think its still in operation but not as an orphanage. You might try a search in a phone book.

According to my map there are three cemeteries between Ferndale and Paron on 12th Street Pike (12th Street, Kanis). One is Springvalley near Ferndale and what I believe may be Fowler Cemetery near Paron. Does anyone know the name of the other? Is there anymore? I am trying to find a cemetery around "Doe Branch" Arkansas, which was near Ferndale, that my family might be buried. Does anyone know if the cemetery inscriptions listed on the Pulaski County and Saline County genweb sites are complete?
