I am beginning to look in the family history of the Davis family in Atkins. Your name is familiar. My father was Leo Davis, mother Lesola May Davis, grandfather John Thomas Davis. I have family still living in the Atkins area. I do recall Ashmores and Strouds, and Griffins. Any information? I am very interested in pursuing the name Dollar in Pope County. I have read all of the posts recently of the names people are researching from Pope County history, but Dollar was never mentioned. Maybe there aren't any of their descendants left there. My gg grandfather, Marion Morgan Dollar and his wife, Nancy Ann Ivey Dollar moved to Cross or St. Francis County in 1849 or 1850. They were married in Tennessee. They had twelve (gasp!)children. They moved to Pope County, AR about 1851 or 1852. My g grandfather, Marion C. Dollar (aka Bob Dollar) was born in Cross County in 1851 and was their third child. The family lived in Liberty Township from 1851, then moved to Hector, AR. Morgan died in 1888 in Hector. Nancy lived in their home with her youngest child, Mary Lee until Nancy died in 1906. Morgan and Nancy are both buried in Walnut Grove Cemetery in Hector. The children were: Freeman C. Dollar, 1847-1927 James Elberry Dollar, 1849-1930 Marion C. (Robert) Dollar, 1851-1900 William Morgan Dollar, 1853-1952 John Pearce Dollar, 1858- Martha A. Dollar, 1860- Benjamin F. Dollar, 1863-1958 Virgil S. Dollar, 1865- Nettie E. Dollar, 1868- Jennie Dollar, 1870- Mary Lee Dollar, 1874- I have the two volumes, History of Pope County, Arkansas, and searched through each one for a reference to any Dollars. There was only one: Arthur Clarence Dollar, who was the son of James E. and Josephine Trimble Dollar. Arthur was married to Clell Canery Thompson. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has any information regarding the Dollar family in Pope County.
