Hi, I havent' lived in Poinstte County, but was born there. My mother was also born there. What kinds of records do you have at the county level. I am desperately trying to find information on my grandparents and great grandparents. I would appreciate any information. I live in OK, but do make it down to MO and AR a couple of times a year. Thanks in advance. Welcome, Everybody to our Poinsett County mailing list. How's everybody doing in their genealogy research? Roadblocks, Successes you would like to share? My ongoing roadblock has been my great-grandfather, William Elsworth Lyon. About 6 months ago, I sent a letter with a SASE to the Tri City Tribune in Marked Tree. I was hoping somebody could look in the obituaries to see if my great-grandfather was listed. I haven't heard a word. He died after my grandmother, Elsie Mae Lyon, was born. She was born August 1911 in Tyronza. Since she was a baby when he died, this is why I feel he is buried in Poinsett County. I wrote to the Poinsett Historical Society. No Lyon listed in their history book, I wrote to 'City Hall' in Tyronza. No luck. I'd have to check my notes, but I'm sure I wrote to a cemetery in Tyronza. It would be easier if he had passed away after 1914 when Arkansas started keeping death records. The story is, my great-grandfather traveled on business. When he was on a trip, he came down with an appendicitis, he was operated on, but it was too late. Then my great-grandmother, Mattie 'Belle' Peters, had to go to the train station to pick-up his body. Anybody have suggestions? John William Singleton and wife Pearl Anna Sandlin moved to Poinsett County between 1903 and 1905. They moved from Dunklin County, Missouri with his brother David Nathaniel Singleton and Margaret Lucinda Taylor. Both brothers were farmers in the Bolivar Township area. John William Singleton became Mayor of Harrisburg from 1919-1920 and Justice of the Peace for Bolivar Township from 1927-1930. Looking for descendants of this SINGLETON family. David N. and Margaret Singleton had three sons: Jeffry Bealey, William Homer, Thomas Otis Singleton. These three sons all moved to the Sycamore, Dekalb County, Illinois area and area buried in this DeKalb County. Children of John William Singleton are William Robert, David Ashley, Myrtle Alice, Linia Mae, Elvis Lacy, Ruby May, Itha Caroline, and Nelle Hunn Singleton. John William Singleton was my ggrandfather, Elvis Lacy Singleton my grandfather, and my parents are James William (J.W.) and Minnie Manley Singleton. Have much information back to late 1600s on this Singleton family. Also have an old photo with the Singleton, Young and Beard families in early 1900s in Harrisburg.
