That unit he was serving in was Union. You may be able to view those records even if you are not a member. I glanced thru them and see that he was mustered in in Lewisburg AR and looks as if one of the records states he was a butcher. One of the records states he was 37, dark hair, eyes and complexion and born in KY. He was discharged May 22 1865 at Lewisburg.
