    1. Re: [ARPERRY-L] GRANT surname
    2. Yvonne, I was born in Johnson Co., AR. It is fairly close to your area of investigation. My husband had in his family an uncle who was quite a bit Cherokee Indian, who was born in Newton Co., which borders Johnson Co. on the north, and is by Pope Co. on the southeasterly direction. I believe his Indian mother's name was Arizona Grant. She was the "granny lady" for the area (herbal healer, etc.). She supposedly came on the Trail of Tears and married Jerry Standridge, who was supposedly related to Chief John Ross. This uncle's name was Bert Standridge. He was born in Lurton, Ben Hur, Pelsor or Treat, AR, I believe. He told stories set in all of these locations and I believe the cemetery of interest is in Treat. One of his fond childhood memories was of working a field one summer, in Cardon Bottom. I will see if I can find more exact information and post here, if so. Good luck.
