    3. Some years ago I drove with my uncle Hub Jones who lived in Dardanelle before his death through Carden Bottom. I would not have known where it is had he not showed me. As I recall there were the ruins of 2 or 3 cotton gins there, and a few houses scattered around. However he told me that in the early 1900's the area was heavily settled and there were a lot of houses all through that area. He pointed out one he helped build. He said there were a number of cotton gins in the area because the muddy roads were so bad that you could not haul the crop by wagon very far to get it ginned. He also mentioned someone (I forget who, but I plan on transcribing the tape soon) who built a boat and was called Noah in jest until a flood actually came and his boat rescued a lot of people. I don't know that Carden Bottom was ever an official village, but apparently there were a lot of people there. It got its name because a man named Carden worked the bottom land with slaves before the war, so I am told. My grandfather and great-grandfather lived in Carden Bottom until about 1908. I have a couple of pictures of him at the general store which I assume was in Casa, but I don't know. Perhaps someone else on the list would know.
