    3. Good Morning, I am in the area of TX that is experiencing the flooding. Thank goodness I do not live in Houston. I am just outside of Beaumont which is abt 80 miles NE from Hou. We are still getting alot of rain and some houses are flooding, mine NOT included! I had relatives that lived in Houston, AR. in abt 1920-1960. Their names were Lester(Chock) and Lula EMBREY. THeir children were Jack, Johnnie and Helen. I visited them many times in the early 50's. THey lived in a white house with a big front porch that sat facing the railroad tracks. My uncle worked for the railroad there. I also had family in Bigelow. My great grandparents were John HANNA and Blanche Elizabeth GARDNER. My grandmother and her siblings were born in Nimrod and Bigelow. If you ever knew any Hanna's, they are probably mine. My grandmother was Susie Elizabeth Hanna, she married B.L. Myers, from MS. He was working in the area there in 1920/1. I also had my ggrandfather in Perry Co from abt 1894. His name was Frank M GARDNER. He had a bunch of kids and they all lived there until ?. Frank died in 1911 and is buried in Hollis. We have never been able to find his grave. I am going to post another msg that has my relatives and who they married for the most part. Who knows, maybe some of you nice folks are my cousins! Thanks again, Marlene, and I would be very interested in the maps! Maybe that is something Cindy would be interested in posting to the Perry Co site, also. 3. Hi, Please forgive me for breaking in here, but could I get the address & phone number for the Perry County Courthouse in Perryville. I have searched high & low for my McKey/McKee for years now & not much luck. They were in the 12th - 1900 Census for Perry Co., Adona, AR, Petit Jean Township. Schedule No. 1, I quess page 312, District No. 4 & enumeration District No. 162. Austin McKey & Wife Laura, Children: Laura E., William A., Winnie, & my Grandmother Jennie B. I was born in McCurtain, OK 1933 but I live in California & see no way of getting to going to check this out myself. Would really appreciate. 3. Hi Rayedene, About the newspaper I don't know anything but old tales as well and I have been there twice and both times didn't even know the name of anyone but my fahter and grandfather at that time. The first time wasn't interested but then after both where dead and I got interested in genealogy it has been harder to get together now. I could find very little but a found in some of the Marriage Books they let me go through at the Courthouse and I copied information on the Freeman's that was married back then and now that I have found what is what I now have a lot of marriage records I wouldn't have had otherwise. Have been wanting to get back over there again but haven't been able to since. Now I could look up the Homestead records on both G-Grandfathers that lived over there. 3. Hi Marlene McCormick, Say if you don't mind I would like to have a copy of those maps of Houston and/or Perry County. Especially the older ones I have heard a lot of tales on the area around the turn of the last century and the early 1900's. I saw the old town of Houston back in the 1960's when it was just a bunch of old empty buildings with big dirt main street with a well in the middle of it all. Then I was back over there about 1993 and the town was gone, new highway through now and finally found the old well out in the middle of a pasture nothing but the old well left. Back about 1910 my Grandfather had a Blacksmith Shop there in Houston and his father owned a farm just outside of town. Want to one day get back over there as I would like to find the old Homestead patent and I believe he died just early 1910,s and would like to find the old probate on that farm, only for genealogy use. 3. Rayedene, I live in Morrilton. We have some nice motels in this area. Super 8 is the one I recommend to people who come in for reunions, ancestor fairs and such. I know the people who manage it and they are good, clean, reputable people. It is just off interstate 40 at the 108 exit. It is south of I40 on highway 9. You can see it from the freeway. When you exit I40 go south on highway 9 to the first red light. When you turn left at the light you are on their parking lot. There is a Waffle House beside it. This will put you 5 minutes from the Conway County Courthouse and the Morrilton Library. The courthouse hours are 8-4:30 or 5. The library is open 8-6 but they are only open Mon. through Thurs. due to all the government cutbacks. If you should be in this area on the third Monday of any month we would like to invite you to our Conway County Genealogical Association meetings. We meet at 7PM. If you are going to be here during this time and would be interested in attending a meeting, email me privately and I will give you the details. By the way, the Super 8 should be perfectly safe for a lady alone to stay. I would not hesitate to stay there. Please let me know if I can be of further help.
