    3. My grandparents also lived in Sayre. My aunt in her 90's pronounces it as you said rhymes with Maybe. That is the only way I have ever heard it. I also have a Sayre school picture with my grandmother and her two sisters in it with a whole school group it seems in front of the school. My grandmother Allie Myrtle Moseley Floyd was born in 1892 and married Oscar Floyd in Sayre in 1909. I would love to see your photo and would gladly share mine. I also have another photo where my grandmother is a little older, looks to be the same teacher with 11 people in a group. I grew up at Redland Community, which is about 10 miles away, and I have a photo of the school at Sayre (probably about 1920). My grandfather, George Nelson Cox, was the schoolteacher at Sayre at the time and is in the photo with all his students. He taught in several of the small community schools during the 1920s & 30s. > > The schoolhouse appears to have been a large, two-story, wood-frame building in a wooded setting. We pronounce Sayre as two syllables ("say-ree"), rhyming with "maybe". Is that how you pronounce your surname? I don't know anything about an original person for whom the community was named, but I will ask my family and perhaps can have a later addition to this mystery. > > > ============================== > To join Ancestry.com and access our 1.2 billion online genealogy records, go to: > http://www.ancestry.com/rd/redir.asp?targetid=571&sourceid=1237 > >

    2. Lois: I would like to have a copy of your old school for posting at our new museum here in Camden Arkansas. Mr.Gerald Keith, is in charge of this project of getting pictures of all the old schools of Ouachita County. I will be happy to print it out for him if you will send me a copy. I know this will make him happy because he was wishing for a picture of the Sayre or Reader school just recently. He lives close by so I do lots of his scanning and making pictures on my computer for him to go into our museum. Thanks Bill Lusby 183 Southwood Dr. Camden, AR. 71701
