Also any and all information on the community when it was called Sayre is of interest. I'm still anxious to find out for whom it was named. One theory is that it was named for the same person for whom Sayre, Oklahoma was named, yet the history of Sayre, Arkansas, seems to go back earlier. The pronounciation is also interesting. In my lifetime and with those that I know, it is pronounced "Sss-air" or "Say'-yerr." Back in the olden days, I think it sounded more like "Sears." That how a lot of our public records were written.
