Surnames: Seay, Nunn Classification: Biography Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/XV.2ADI/461 Message Board Post: Charles H. Seay, a local preacher, who lived near the present town of Warren, Arkansas, preached here (Camden) in 1826, in the home of John Nunn. His congregation were the Nunn family and some of their neighbors from up and down the river. Charles H. Seay was a well-known local preacher of his day and his name was a household word throughout this section for many years after his death, and into the lifetime of some still living (1944). A grandson of his, Edgar Seay, was a member of the conference from 1904 to 1914, and descendants still live in and around Warren. From 1826 to 1832 the extent of Methodist labors -and for that matter religious activities in general- was an occasional visit from Seay and another local preacher named Gross, and perhaps one or two other noble, although to us nameless, laborers of the past. Possibly Jesse Haile, William Stevenson, John Harris, Rucker Tanner, Green Orr, John Harrell, or some other hardy itinerant who roamed the wilds of south ! Arkansas in those days stopped here now and then for a service. -- from "A History of the First Methodist Church of Camden, Arkansas", by Kenneth Spore, 1944. -- transcriber is not a relative and has no further information about these individuals.
